I meant to ask this the last time I ran across it but I forgot. I got another repair today that had the crappy painted on (I guess?) after clear stripes. I used 1/8″ fineline to mask them off to keep stuff off during the repair, and when I peeled the fineline (same as last time) it peeled part of the stripe off. Peeled it off before painting by the way. So i had to just go around the rest of the car and wipe the rest of the stripe off with thinner. What does everyone else do? This was on an Equinox, last time was a Toyota.
February 26, 2013 at 8:14 am #41654Are u using blue fine line or a white transparent fine line by 3m .the 3m white seems not as sticky, usually that works for me.i also try to pull the tape off left or right not pulling up on it.
February 26, 2013 at 8:30 am #41655Using blue fineline. I always pull it back across itself. I will give the other stuff a shot.
February 27, 2013 at 3:47 am #41664I stripe for shops. Often the previous striper did not prep well enough. There is often no mechanical adhesion for stripes, and sometimes they come off when taped or just by a fingernail. It’s not unusual for lacquer thinner to remove One Shot, Chromatic or Finesse enamel. You’ve mentioned the use of Mack and Kafka so this should be an easily resolved issue.

February 27, 2013 at 6:13 am #41669Get Finesse striping stencils and tell your boss you’ll do it. You’ll make more per panel than you do at your regular hourly wage.
February 28, 2013 at 4:17 am #41689Thank you!!! I knew something like that existed, but it’s really hard to find in Australia.
I’ve been hand-masking my stripes which has been very time consuming……I know TCP Global ship to Australia so I will be ordering these stencils from them shortly.
