toyota and honda
Those are probably my top two for teardown & rebuild, colors matches are another story. I might put hyundai in there to. VW, audi & other imports that I don’t see too often I don’t like, mostly because I’m unfamiliar with them. It would likely be different if I had more variety, we get so many of the same cars here.
Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura are what i work on most. Bread and butter.
The nearest Audi dealer keeps virtually nothing in stock; all special orders…
Kia’s are just junk and should go the way of Daewoo. They probably will.Mercedes and BMW are a lot more involved and the attention to detail is amazing.
It takes a few hours to R&I a door handle, unlike a Toyota where it takes less
than 5 minutes, but you can appreciate engineering and precision. And the more labor
involved, the more you can charge!jimmo, What do you guys work on most? Seems like mostly domestic models?
AnonymousJune 13, 2009 at 7:04 am #1471340% Chryslers, 30% GM, 15% Honda and the rest is a mix. GM may go down as the dealer we were serving went out of business. We still do all repairs for 2 Chrysler dealerships & a fair bit of work for 1 Honda dealer. We have entered the DRP market being a fix auto so we are starting to see a bit more of a mix from those referrals.
We work on everything so i really dont have a favorite, the biggest POS on the road is Suzuki and the biggest PITA is probably Saab in my opinion. Unlike Han I find benz and bmw really quick and easy to detrim, however dash replacement/50 airbags and drivetrains are a little more involved. I also dont think Kia is all that bad on their late model stuff, comparable quality to the japan makes and they offer excellent collision repair manual information for free.
Suzuki so easy to work on get a door handle out in no time, even when you have to take the inner door trims off.
Toyota pretty good most of the time.
Honda good as well
Hate VW doors specially when the damn horseshoe clips ends up in the bottom off the door, thats a hour lost by the time you strip the trim out and remove and install the big ,metal plate.
