If you are doing a 100 point concours resto on a big block vette and you want to go to the bloomington gold show you have to reproduce what the factory did right down to factory overspray.December 12, 2012 at 5:21 am #39877

Nice work… but why the over-spray on the intake manifold on the Sting Ray? :wak
As stupid as it is, when that car is judged, if you do not have that overspray on the manifold you lose points.
Thanks for all the kind words and compliments!!

I was wondering about that as well. :teach
We’ve all seen some interesting things from the factory, but that one is new to me
December 12, 2012 at 6:49 am #39881Pretty common in the GM musclecar restoration world,if you have done a few for the uptight crowd it is all to common to try to reproduce shoddy workmanship. The mopar guys even want the factory runs duplicated. On some of the chevelles /camaros/novas they also want body color overspray on the bottom of the floors that are black or red oxide(depending on the plant). You haven’t even experienced a picky owner until you have had to do a resto like that
December 12, 2012 at 4:40 pm #39884Nice work…and no joke about the “authenticity.”
Friend of mine just finished a resto on a 65 GTO Convertible and took it to a nationaly judged show. Docked 1 point because the carpet was cut the wrong way where it goes around the seat bracket mount to the floor.
Only point they docked him.
I like correctness to a point…but I’d rather improve upon what the factory did and do them the way I think they REALLY wanted them done. Of course though, I’ll do whatever the hell the customer says….with my input :p
December 12, 2012 at 7:23 pm #39885believe it or not on the 1953 vette…I had overrestored the car originally. When I brought it to be judged they took points off because the car was too straight. I had to redo the car and make it wavy and get over spray on the weatherstrips LOL.
I know its ridiculous but if you want the awards this is what you deal with!December 12, 2012 at 11:47 pm #39890nothing like corvettes and hemi cars ta give new meaning ta whats right an not right :wak i actually kinda like the way they looked originally over something thats over done??? :weights
