i gotta agree with all these guys on the platinum. it definately sands much easier than the plus. i like it way better. only problem is everyone always carries the plus. the regular platinum is harder to find. i also use the dolphin glaze. its excatly the same as evercoat metal glaze. only difference is packaging. the evercoat stuff gets thicker and thicker from the first day it sits on the shelf. those squeeze tubs suk for that. the dolphin glaze stays fresh in the foil pouch and thickness stays consistant.

yeah i gave it another try and it seemed to have less clog which is good. i like it, i like how easy it spreads, ill have to try the regular platinum, and dolphin, and my go to fillers will probably be quantnum and the platinum, but i have an out of topic question, for the SATA users, which gun or model do you guys like better for base RP or HVLP as in blending and coverage etc, i tried searching it so i wouldnt start a whole new topic but couldnt find anything about it.

You might have some bad hardener,it should NOT CLOG YOUR PAPER,it sands super easy and powders right off.
I never cared for hvlp guns,I used an rp when I shot solvent and never had a problem. :kofee

I thought the same thing, because I had a hard time getting the Hardener to mix while I was kneading it, it was really watery, I never had that problem with the evercoat hardeners, I’m gonna try the evercoat hardener, I shouldn’t have a problem since they are both the same chemical right? (Benzoyl Peroxide) I think it is

And O ok I was just wondering, I seen a really good deal on one but it was an hvlp, they seem to cover really well, but sticking to my prolite for now :cheer: and my 4000rp for clear :rock

i like fantastik however i have experianced differences in consistancy from batch to batch, sometimes it can be a little on the sloppy side ,one product i realy do like is Upol Flyweight ,currently i can buy it at £12.50 a tin compared to £23 for fantastic ,it is almost as smooth as fantastic but has a slightly rougher grain to it ,doesnt pin hole much at all and sands back nice and easy ,it is one of the only budget fillers i have tried that realy works well ,much much better than Upol so called easysand ,its sort of easysand but with the superior atributes of fantastic and is great middle ground filler

as i do a lot of bikes and scooters lambretta vespa i require a filler that makes my job easier and Flyweight fits the bill allround ,as a bonus it is also very reasonably priced although price is not the deciding factor for me its nice to get a good product at a good price

o ok thanks, ill see how much it is around here and if its cheap enough to use as budget filler, i need to find a good budget filler, to do some of the filling or the lower end cars that i dont get much for to do. after using quantnum, ultra, and platinum , i went back to my $20 a can filler for job im doing now and i hate it :rofl , its so hard to sand, clogs my sand paper big time, and go through my 80 grit paper as if it was 600, so i need to find a better economy filler than that crap, i just tried the Tiger Hair fiber glass filler from evercoat to do a patch panel and it is the worst product i have ever bought, i mean im sure thats how its meant to be, but it was so hard to spread i couldnt even get it off my spreader. ill stick to the short strand stuff next time

If you think about it the longer you spend sanding a cheaper filler it costs you more money in labor and sandpaper, not really cost effective.I agree that the flyweight gold is a great filler but didn’t find the fantastic very good at all, maybe I had a bad batch…

Yeah, that’s why I’ve been switching over to the better stuff, I saved a ridiculously amount of sandpaper, time, and sore arms , ever since I’ve been trying the better fillers compared to when I was using the cheap filler. , I’m learning little by little, I’ve been on it for about 1 1/2 hands on, and been on my own since june and had like 8 months in the classroom, my high school teacher tried teaching me all he could in the little time he had, but its impossible to fit 25+ years experience in little over a year, so I’ve been having to find out a lot of things on my own. And I thank you all from this forum for the advice and tips ! :clappy

What is interesting, in Europe the tendency is in moving to one product instead of using filler and putty. The idea is to have one product for both filling and glazing. Our sales of fine putty are very small into comparison to universal polyester filler, which is rather normal specific wait, than light one.

glad to hear about the preference of platinum over the plus. we’ve been using upol gold for a while, before that we used the keystone platinum plus which both were decent. i liked how the keystone spread on but didn’t sand so well initially and the upol seemed to build well and sand pretty well. i only tried one gallon of fantasik and didn’t like it at all. the last few gallons have been the platinum plus and i gotta say its much better in all areas. if the regular platinum is even nicer then i’ll be really happy. as far as glazes go i’ve been using dolphin for the past 4-5yrs with good success. recently tried some platinum plus glaze and it seems to be pretty good too, it has a thicker build than dolphin so we’ll probably keep both around depending on the job. i like how dolphin flows out. also for fiberglass and thicker fills i’ve been using upol fibral lite and have been very pleased. what are you guys using for fiberglass filler?

who would have thought? was browsing thru amazon and found 3m platinum plus filler for 36.00 a “gallon” with subscribe and save. between 8-15$ cheaper than local distributors. i did get charged tax which shouldnt be the case but still less money for a good product.

Now a day most of the branded filters not having that quality which they have before. They are not maintaining the quality so search first and then use.
