seems like its getting harder and harder to find good help in the shop everyone says they know what there doing and can get work done. just seems like everyone out there is over cocky and think there worth $20+ an hr and have no idea on what there doing or how to do it right or any tools
whats the average pay an hour for body frame and paint guys ? flat rate or salary? an bouns or benfits ?
August 29, 2013 at 6:33 am #44309Your not alone, many shops are in the same boat with the shortage of skilled techs. It really depends where you are, every area is different with their salary and door rates.
I need a bodyman at my shop, been advertising for the past 6 months and havent gotton one response. Seems here in my area no one is going into the trade anymore for whatever reason. The local college instructor said it was “a dying trade”. Dont really know what to do being i want to grow my business but cant without employees. I may have to bring on someone to do their apprentiship, but that has its downsides too..
$20 an hour?
Here that would barely get you a 4th year apprentice. Even average painters are asking $30/hour and a really good one over $50.
I’ve been looking for a decent painter for ages and offering an $80K annual package including open ended productivity bonus. Haven’t had any luck finding one that actually wants to work.

I know, I’m surprised they aren’t queuing around the corner for that kind of money! That’s double what I earn!

Australian Embassy, mate.
“Speak English?”
“Oim Oirish”
“Close enough….Occupation?”
“Spray painter”
“You’re in”😆
65000$ For me a year and thats pretty darn low compared to other trades in this area, I work hard and do good work, and the hacks who do crap work make 80+ a year and ruin it for the rest of us. pretty sad. I was told not to get into this trade but my pasion was strong now at times I regret it. But the future in this area for the trade looks bright. :cheer:

I do think painters are undervalued over here though. I went for an interview a couple of months back at a BMW dealer. They have been going for as long as I can remember and have a really good reputation. They’re also starting to build new premises which will be the largest BMW (& Mini) dealership in Europe when finished so they aren’t exactly a cowboy outfit. However, they were offering a salary of just £17.5K! That’s as a painter in a prestige main dealer shop. There was a bonus system in place too but that would only amount to £2K at the most per year.
I found it hard not to laugh when he told me but politely made it clear that I was no longer interested in the position
