I was speaking to someone at a shop the other day that paints a lot of cars and they called barry to see if they could get a gallon of clear to sample. Apparently he wouldn’t send them any to try out.
January 15, 2010 at 7:00 am #18656Sorry, I was out in the garage all day getting some more suspension parts painted (my local paint supply store mixed my exterior colour as a single stage instead of B/C so free paint for me). [img]http://www.calgaryvolvoclub.com/gallery/d/19259-2/HPIM1553.JPG[/img]There are two places (one I found thanks to this forum) that sell paint locally. I’ve been dealing with my paint store for several year and get excellent service…they are a little short on product information etc, but they do sell to the general public, which I understand is not the same everywhere. That being said, I do have a fresh air system and take all the usual safety precautions.

January 15, 2010 at 9:03 am #18658Hi Craig, there are more than 2 places that sell automotive paint in our area.1.Napa sells Dupont,2.Custom Engine and Parts sells PPG,3.Acklands Grainger sells Dupont,4.Silver automotive sells Sher Will(sold ppg for 30 years until 2 years ago, never should have changed :wak )5.Offshore autobody supply sells sikkens,lesonal,U-tech.Just in case you want to do some shopping,as far as the most knowledgeable place,my vote is offshore,2 guys there have over 40 years combined in the autobody trade and they know what they are talking about, the otherplaces only have a partsman at best,no first hand knowledge.By the way when you have that thing ready to shoot let me know,I could shoot it for ya in the downdraft at work.

January 15, 2010 at 9:43 pm #18683Wow – I didn’t know NAPA had anything for sale or the rest. I’ve only lived here for 8 years, you’d think I would have found these things out by now. Great information.
Thanks for the offer to squirt it Jayson. At this point I’m going to try at home and see how it goes. I’m use to the SW stuff now, but did prefer the PPG (it was easier to shoot). What I like about Silver is the service. I seem to get very good service from both Wayne and Chris – they find my projects just weird enough to be interesting. That said, the boys at Offshore were really helpful with the products that I picked up there and I’m so in love with the urethane seam sealer that they sold me that I can’t believe I’ve been using other sealer for so long when this stuff is on the market.
I’m in a bit of a bind with this car as I need to get it done and out of the garage soon, but there is so much to do and no time to do it…I don’t like being rushed as the quality suffers. I have to get the mechanicals back together and get the engine/transmission back in it as well as the suspension back on. This is when my day job really gets in the way!
January 16, 2010 at 4:24 am #18699Hey Craig,Chris from silver is a close friend of mine and I like dealing with him too.I also did the bodywork and painting on that old black 71 pro street comet of his that won best paint at 2007 street machine weekend.I understand about time constraints, good luck with your project 😉
