This question shows how ignorant I am to all things paint and body… but here goes. I have a 2010 Tahoe with minor scratches and some build up on the front bumper that appears to be bugs, etc, from the last couple of years. How do I get everything smooth and polished PROPERLY? I’ve never known exactly how to properly buff/polish/wax a car, and now I want to learn how to get the scratches out and the bumper fixed up and wax/polish the entire thing. I would really appreciate any answers..
I’ve been watching YouTube videos, but I’m not sure I trust them all. Do I sand with a high grit paper? Is there a cure-all cleaner to get bugs and gunk off of vehicles? Thanks for the help.

Then get a clay bar kit & follow the instructions, do whole car.depending on the depth of the scratch, most time some heavy cut compound can get them out, for others 1500 is all u need. And b carefully, it doesn’t take much to sand thru. And then wash well again after wards.

An all purpose degreaser may work a little better than soap and water. Some of the bug guts will embed into the paint/clearcoat, a clay bar would be the next aggressive way to remove them. If that dont work then wetsand and buff would be next, I use 2000 grit first , the finer the better chance to not go through the clear and is easier to buff out with compound. Sometimes the bug guts are embedded so far you have to sand and repaint.
