We Spray Chromax Pro, and have a job coming in thats a 2013 Ford Focus with Z9 Blue Candy Tint Metalic with a tinted clearcoat. Im told we have to get a factory pack. Any one spray this color? Any pointer as to what to expect? going to replace rear cover and fix a dent in rear gate.
May 2, 2013 at 12:10 am #43041I dont spray chromax pro but I have the formulas on my computer. I spray standox solvent. There are 2 b/c formulas and one 3 stage but the mid-coat for the 3 stage doesnt have a formula. I would try a camera shot and see if a 2 stage formula would work or even mix a little of each and do a couple spray cards. If neither of the b/c alternates work. I would try scanning the database without any vehicle info using a camera shot. I would only look into the 3 stage as a last resort unless someone gets on here and says its the only way to match this color.Have fun.

I just ran my latest update disc and found there are now 2 tri-coat formulas for this code. The latest formula doesn’t have a mixable mid coat either. :headsmack: I would still try to match it in 2 stage.
May 2, 2013 at 5:21 am #43047Hey I haven’t done z9 but I have done RR Ford Dupont has the tinted clear, Do a spray out card same as tri coat base 1 coat tinted clear up to three coats and then clear as normal, pick your match way easier then pearls. only problem I found was high clear build up the panel edges.
I spray Standox Standoblue, and see that the blue candy comes up as a single base coat. I have sprayed the ford red candy in a single base coat and was realy pleased with the match. They use the transparent tonners to somehow coat the pearls and it fools the eye pretty good. As these cars with the tinted clears get older they are going to be harder to match since the tinted clear will likely fade.
Before
During
After
2 stage color worked out just fine in this case.
