Hello,
I am new here and I have many questions(sorry), I recently acquired an 05 G35 Sedan that was in a front end collision and I noticed the motor is pushed back towards the firewall the vehicle is RWD,it looks like the motor took the impact towards the top front, motor mounts and transmission mounts look to be ok,the only thing that was crunched was the frame bumper brackets, is there a chance that maybe the uni-body got pulled in a downward position from the transmission mount cross member that bolts up to the Uni-body?is that even possible? Has anyone ever had a similar problem? I cant really see where the problem is by looking at it?Not an experienced frame/body guy.Help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks for taking the time to read. Well I got it mainly for parts, but when I looked at it closely I discovered that its an AWD vehicle, it will benefit me since we get alot of snow here, but what concerns me is the motor being pushed back.Got it for a good deal.Any thoughts of what might be the problem??
not as difficult as it looks…pulling the engine out is a good idea on this one, if its pushed back, you can easily replace the front sub frame assembly which the engine mounts on. then the front rails also look pushed back or swayed. id replace them or section them based on the extent of damage but only after pulling them as close to original position as possible. replacing the sub frame will make this one repairable.
January 6, 2010 at 11:06 pm #18473Not exactly an ideal choice given you aren’t experienced at this sort of thing. Just about anything is repairable if you throw the right amount of time and money at it, but I really hope you got it dirt cheap.
Best of luck 🙂

January 7, 2010 at 12:59 am #18479You picked a hell of a job to learn on. It’s probably going to need to go on a frame rack with the motor and subframe out. Getting it to the frame shop with the sub-frame out might be difficult. If it was at our shop we would drop it out and do the frame repairs. Do our painting and put the motor back in.
It might be wise to sublet that part of the repair out. Without a frame rack, a way to measure, the measurements, and some experience I wouldn’r recommend doing it yourself. You need to get the structural part right to be safe

Yeah well I figured that if I have to spend money to place it on a frame rack I will not follow through with the repair to much work, instead I will use it for parts,it has a bunch of good parts,I want to thank everyone for helping me out. Here is one car I repaired a few months ago nothing really impressive, just thought id throw it on here for viewing purposes, its an 06 Infiniti G35X sorry about the pix quality I was using my phone.
its hard to eye ball a bent subframe but from the looks of the first photo with the left wheel pushed back i wouldnt doubt it. its also hard as hell to repair them and wouldnt recommend it. its true you can replace it with the engine in place and as ryan said typically it would be dropped with the engine in place. makes the repair so much easier and cleaner
January 7, 2010 at 3:45 am #18486It may not cost as much as you think. Get a few quotes first. If you can spend a couple grand at a good frame shop it may be money well spent. Never know you might find someone who is willing to work with you. Around here there are a few guys who do nothing but frmae work and their prices aren’t bad. Frame work is hard to do without the proper equipment.
The car you fixed looks good.
