Looks good Nex :cheers Glad it worked out for ya 😉

Thanks Jayson, I really apperciate it, this is what the forum is all about; to apply the knowledge given by others.

I took what you mentioned to me the other night and thought about it. About how to move quick and get it on, and then go back and see if you have any dry spots. That worked much better for me, rather thing trying to lay it all on at once (more wet) and risk running it.

    December 30, 2010 at 8:53 am #26597

The more experienced you get you will be able to watch the paint going onto the surface, first coat should always be medium wet with no dry spots. It is just a habit of mine after I put on my first coat to check and make sure everything looks good with even coverage, and there are no dry spots, you don’t want to get in the habit of double coating, that will kick you in the balls.Once you can touch your clear with your finger and it feels dry and not stringy(hand slick) you can hammer on your second coat.

    December 30, 2010 at 9:22 am #26598

Yea, I understand what your saying right there.

As for the second coat, I have been told wait for hand slick and then I have been told wait for tacky (like the backside of a piece of tape, not stringly like you said) and I was just confused as to which one to use.

Looks good nex and if u are still using the 3000 clear u must be waiting the right amount of time other wise u would be having issues with the final outcome.

    December 31, 2010 at 5:13 am #26621

Thanks Painter, I never really experienced any die back problems to be honest, I guess I am not painting on a large enough scale to run into those problems, but with dc3000, im in and around 5 minutes flash time and it is good to go.

    December 31, 2010 at 5:18 am #26622

yeah 5 mins is about right depending on the temp outside and the temp hardener u are using

    Jayson is correct.

tacky, handslick, etc. just different terms. I think the term “handslick” is mostly used by Sherwin WIlliams people. But the theory is correct, not stringy (unless you like runs)

For a lighter gray metallic shade, that color match is awesome. Also from your previous posts, the burgundy metallic grille matches well also. Does the PPG Deltron 2000 Base usually match well for you?

Where do you get the paint from?
