Any automotive palm sander will work. they do not have an orbital pattern. they are random orbital while the disc spins it also moves in an elliptical pattern. A DA (dual action)Sander has the ability to lock the head so it spins in an orbital fashion or it can be used unlocked as a random orbital.

    ok
i dont want to buy a sander and get stuck with something i didnt want.
my no name orbital sander, spins random orbital and then spins rotarally lol ok in a circle as well but as soon as you apply moderate pressure this spinning stops and your stuck on random orbit. i guess what im looking for is forced rotation while random orbiting.

you dont want forced rotation for water sanding. thats for aggressive material removal. Maybe your no name is no good or maybe your air supply is not sufficient.

    yes i do

    a dynabrade 3/16 should b suitable ?
    i cant imagine a 3/32 orbit

for orbit size 3/16 is what you want. dont get a 3/32. they are about useless.

    thats what i thought
and i also thinking that a 3/8 would vibrate liek crazy

3/8 is more aggressive for roughing in filler etc. most mud hogs are 3/8 orbit. 3/32 is fine for someone who is colorsanding clearcoat that doesnt have much experience or feel for a da yet. it is real slow goin. i had one and sold it after a week. i know 3m recommends 3/16 for all their color sanding products not the 3/32.
