I have been thinking about gettin my business started for to long now and am ready to start.
Firstly I need to decide between water or solvent borne paint. I am leaning way twords water
born because our painter was always talking about wanting to change over to it, and it just seems like and all around better product. Would it also be a cost effective decision? Also at the old shop i worked at they had built a paint boothbut I had never seen it in use. I was wondering if any one else has done that, and what they used to do it, and if ill have to do anything special to spray water borne in it. Because building one, and waiting to save up for a real booth will help me out a Ton! And lastly ill need guns our painter swore by the
Sata RP 3000 for clear, and just had an average gun for base that I never seen a brand on.
The gun I used for all my prep work was also a Sata so I am partial to Sata. Any info will
help me out in a huge way! Thanks guys!Brandon
July 26, 2010 at 9:10 am #23302well first you need to pick up a copy of the epa national area source rule book. you will have to apply to them on you shop being in compliance. they will help you in a hurry on what you want to buy.(i say this because of all the rules on equipment and weather or not it’s worth your investment.)
as for the water born that will depend on who you go with. ppg, requires a lot and you’ll have to go thorug their training and most likely be under contract to get it. but you don’t need a special both. as for the cost of water borne. we’re told the toners are 10% more. but you use way less then solvent. so it depends on your budget.
the rp is a good gun for clear, if your going to keep the same guy for painting, i would suggest geting what he is comfy with. buy the rp or hvlp, conventionals will no longer be compliant for epa rules. gl and have fun with your new adventure.- AuthorPosts
