I am very familiar with NH623M and when I use to spray it 90% of the time I would go with the 90 Lighter variant (also the MPV 1) and it was a pretty close matching color. It was somewhat inconsistent between cars and the remaining 10% of the time the variants would be used in this order -93,40,39, then standard. NH700M I used phone a friend on because I don’t recall, he seemed to think standard was a great match, looking at my recall data the most popular for me were 40,95,92, then standard. The only history I found using E1 was that we used variant 97.
I predominately sprayed Chrysler & Honda colors, but we have shops (mostly dealers) that see all makes and if any color problems come up I am the first guy to hear about it. I get the odd color problem but in many cases it’s a blendable match and sometimes rather than just spray a bumper, you have to blend it into the fenders/quarters. I think colors like that will come up in any paint line, but I can say for the most part you can paint a bumper with the closest variant, install and it looks good. Is it possible your having difficulty comparing the spray-out deck to the car and picking the best chip? what line did you spray previously and how did things compare?
The recommended tip size for 90 Line on the tech sheet is 1.2-1.5 but most guys I encounter prefer going on the higher end, either a 1.4 or 1.5. Onyx is a little bit thicker and the recommendations are a 1.5. I think your Sata 3000 HVLP with a 1.4 would be fine, just remember to finish off with the mist/effect coat. Not long ago I was speaking with a Sata rep regarding the 4000 series gun and it was his opinion that the HVLP Sata performs better for BASF basecoat, and the RP is the choice for clear. Most guys have a Tekna / Tekna prolite for base with a 1.5, but I’ve seen guys even spraying older GTi’s and don’t seem to run into many problems.
If you want to PM me your email address I can send you a tinting guide for 90 Line. This way you will know the exact impact of each toner on both the face/pitch when you need to make adjustments (hopefully we can get that down). Send me any more codes that come up and I can pull up some mixing history and let you know what I’ve encountered.
February 7, 2014 at 9:31 am #45882Sorry It has taken me so long to respond. I do appreciate the help. It hasn’t been too bad this week but I’ve painted a lot of black cars. The biggest problem is still the side-tone on the silvers, it is always too dark, I’m still trying to get a Tekna gun to try out.
