Just demo’d Glasurit 90 line yesterday and Monday….We did three pretty decent size job and they all came out great. Only one was metallic….wanted to try it on some hard colors but that was just what was going thru at the time. I was not overly impressed really. I mean it seemed like we were waiting on it to flash alot. I like smoke breaks, lol, but damn 😛 …I have sprayed Cromax Pro once and it was in n out it seemed. My boss is gonna be asking me today what I think and i just dont know if its the way to go. I want to switch to water becuz I know paint companies are spending more $$ on color research in water vs solvent….but…is glaso 90 line old technology?? Who is leading in water at the moment? If anyone has any opinions on Glas 90 line, Id love to know what u think. These guys said after a cpl weeks id love it.
November 23, 2011 at 4:50 pm #34346Glaso and onyx are solvent tints with a water mixing clear. Not a true waterborne technology. I tried some on a few small parts and didnt have much issue but its hard to judge based on a bumper and tailgate. my rep says they are having better luck with 90 line by mixing it with the onyx mixing clear. from the shops around me that are using it, i havent hear anyone rave about it. Takes to long to dry, base stays gummy. I’ve heard some people say they’ve moved the base when buffing the car :S. I think jimmo is they only one on the site that uses BASF water everyday. maybe he’ll chime in

Just make sure the jobs are similar so you can get a real feel for the differences.
Like ding said, try sanding each one, tack them off, lay some 2″ tape down and see what happens.
Make yourself a chart/spreadsheet and record each job, flash time, tape time, whatever. Don’t rely on your memory.
WE stopped using 54line in 1994 /then went over to glasurit water base.keep up with the times,or be left behind.you will find when european cars come over ,there all done in waterbsse.one day it will come over the pond ,in some cases it already has .chip and custom my ride all on waterbase
AnonymousNovember 27, 2011 at 10:51 pm #34393In water all I’ve really sprayed is 90 line and onyx, demo’d a few but no real feel for anything else. After the learning curve I find we can get things done slightly slower then when using diamont solvent. The color matching is fantastic I can say, how it compares to other waterborne systems Im not so sure. My feeling is its not the greatest for usability but color match saves its ass.
(ps – I’m epically hungover, sorry if this doesn’t make sense…I was debating to reply now)
December 1, 2011 at 1:09 am #34435Solvent is space age to me, I’m in the UK, I’ve been using waterbase since I started out at 16. I’ve used nexa ici, or ppg as you guys may call it, spies hecker, standox, sikkens and glasurit. And as said above glaso is the only one that isn’t a true waterbase. That said I’ve never had any trouble with it, much easier to use than the ICI. The film build in ICI always seemed too much for me, especially for base, but I find the Spies Hecker base lays down best with a Sata 3000 HVLP with a WSB setup.
