I’ve used both products. Currently spraying 90 line daily. It really depends what kind of painter you are. 90 line is thick shit, currently my rep has me reduce it 70% (I know crazy) and still if you get a run in that base you’re doing something really wrong. Autowave is true waterbase, unlike 90 line so it’s piss thin, you have to be more careful with their base and compatible clears.
Autowave drys faster in my opinion and it sets bone dry, no gummieness like 90 line, so if you need to scrub out a few nibs before clearing its easier. 90 line matches better than anything I’ve used before and it’s easiest to mix seeing as there’s a limited number of versatile hardners and reducers you use. Overall I like autowave best but the boss likes the Glaso! To tell you the truth Ive been hearing nothing but good things about Sikkens auto wave, it’s a true waterborne with great color match and has probably the best Clear coat [Superior 250] on the market with over 70 percent hs, Onyx on the other hand some can make it work and some don’t like it , it’s not a true waterborne, it’s solvent toners with a water binder, I have not personally used either just going by what I have read, there are guys on here that are using these systems that could probably chime in to help, I know the site owner Jimmo has experience with onyx and he would be the guy to talk to. Why do you ask are you having trouble with Autowave or is it a business decision?

If you want any product information I can help there, Onyx and 90 Line are pretty different now having the solvent option but if you have a decent booth that handles waterborne well then 90 line is better to spray. Any question of this nature is pretty subjective, every shop I go into the painters tell me something different about their preferences. I’ve never sprayed Sikkens before but I’m sure they wouldn’t be in business if it wasn’t working for somebody. In Ontario I visit many shops, several big ones with some serious production where they find ways to stay productive with either Onyx or Glasurit. My company deals almost exclusively with dealerships, I’m the guy they call for color problems and for the most part people are pretty happy. Many shops are also seeing value in our software which integrates into repair centre pretty well, there are many things people consider when shopping a paint line.
I like Sikkens Automove !! I have sprayed Onxy HD (water) and even though after reducing it 70% I had difficulty spraying. Sikkens is great for a high production shop, great primers that build, sand, and when converted into sealer are awesome. Base is easy to spray, and by changing your gun setup ( Using HVLP for humid days and RP for Dry days) helps alot. Sikkens HS-LV 2 Pack and Superior 250 are some of the best clears ever !!!
