Can someone explain to me why Iwata can’t make one air cap that can spray everything well? Sata and devilbiss can spray base clear or candies etc with one air cap,for what you pay for an Iwata(same or more than a sata in my area)then you have to buy 2 more air caps,it sounds like a marketing scam.I did try an iwata lph 400lv and I did not like it,to be fair I didn’t try the w-400,I’m sure it would fit my style better.
December 5, 2009 at 4:30 am #17504Ok, just picked up a used once LPH 400 LVX Extreme. Looking for a silver cap locally. $87 is pretty cheap compared to other on-line deals I’ve seen.
:woohoo: You’ll love the gun!
Do some research, some actually like their orange cap better for spraying clearcoat.
Spray clearcoat with it first, see if you like it.
Ask HUB @ http://www.asetusa.com about it.
Well Jayson, I’ve sprayed a little bit of everything with my LPH400-LX and it sprays everything pretty damn good to be honest.
I think the caps are just minor tweaking to achieve the “Ideal” results. You have to give to take, and no gun works perfectly for everything.
My ol’ SGF98 can shoot damn near anything nice. I sort of consider it my universal gun. I wouldn’t think twice before grabbing it for anything. But I have basecoat, and clearcoat guns that can out do it.
But I don’t consider them my universal guns because they’re more my “Specialty guns” and they work better for their particular purpose. But I like to use my LPH400-LX for Clears, and Solid colors. Never had a problem, and it does a good job. But I have better guns for metallics. So I use them instead. Not to say it wouldn’t get the job done.
This whole post has reminded me just how many guns I have… and how many of them I don’t use, Especially considering how much I paid for some of them… Wow. I belong in the loony bin… :wak
December 5, 2009 at 8:57 am #17517I used a Sata NR 2000 for a lot of years and I would say that it is a good universal gun. It sprays sealer good, metalics GREAT, clear good. My Iwata is not a good universal gun with only one cap but a GREAT specialized gun with the correct cap. With the chrome cap sprays sealer good, metalics not so good, clear GREAT. Purple cap goes sealers not good, metalics GREAT, clear not so good.

I just found that site…good think I’m snowed in this weekend. There’s some good reading there. Anyway, I picked it up for $290 – used once. I’m pretty happy about the price. This is the first high end gun I’ve ever owned. I’m going to have to look into my pile of old paints and that fender is going to get a few more coats of something before I shoot the car. Thanks for all the help guys.

December 5, 2009 at 9:17 am #17520Thats a nice gun. It will spray everything well. Basecoat great.
I don’t think there is anything a a gun good for everything. I have alot of guns and there isn’t one I would pick for everything. It really depends on what brand, water or solvent, air supply, and mainly the user. People get good results with every brand. You just have to find one that fits your spraying style. With that said the Iwata is a very nice gun. You can’t go wrong with an Iwata or a Sata.

Since your an RP guy, you would like the W-400 alot more than the LPH. To be honest the only thing I like the LPH better for is solvent basecoat.

You can convert the Iwata LPH 400 to work with most any material with just a cap change. The only difference is indeed the cap.
I may be able to help you out on price.
Just look around, see what deal you can find, and I’ll see if I can beat it.[/quote]Sending you a PM.
January 22, 2010 at 10:20 am #18850Hi Guys,
I just had to report on the LPH-400. I spent an hour cleaning it out (e-bay purchase, guy didn’t know how to clean a gun), and I have to say I’ve never painted with anything quite like this gun before. I’ve been at this, in a hobby sense, for over 20 years and this thing is amazing – I’ve always had knock off guns of dubious quality. I’ve watched the videos of you guys cutting in areas etc and thought that I just couldn’t do that with my skills…turns out I just couldn’t do that with my guns. It was so easy (a little closer than I’m use to, but that gets easy quick) – I was only shooting epoxy primer but was very pleased with the result. I can’t wait to shoot some colour with it. Tomorrow I’ll get the chance to shoot some single stage in the trunk and some base clear under the hood if all the prep goes well.
The complete lack of fog in my garage was just astounding. Beer’s all round to those that encouraged me to buy this gun.
Thanks again,
CraigJanuary 28, 2010 at 4:46 am #18990hey rat, can you still get the caps for 87? how about with shipping top Virginia?
