Been wanting a new gun for clear and trying to decide what to get. I have heard good things about the tekna. Its cheaper than a 4000RP but I like satas build quality. I am also looking at a W400LV. I spray mostly energy pro 250 and HS+. What do you guys recomend?
I spray Energy Pro 250 almost exclusively and you can’t beat the Sata 3000 RP, or 4000 RP with this clear. I have a few Teknas, and an Iwata W400LV, and neither of these guns gives you the speed, nor lays it down as nice as either of the Sata RP models, IMO. Pricey, but worth every penny, and super easy to maintain. Good luck! :rock
October 7, 2011 at 3:27 pm #33420The Tekna for clear does an good job. Not as good as the W400 or the RP. it feels better built than the Iwata, but not as good as the Sata. with a little tweaking it can put out almost as good of a job as my RP.
I kinda like my W400lv for HS+ honestly. I think it lays it on a bit flatter than my RP. With that said I am not a huge fan of HS+ as I find it a quirky bitch sometimes. You can convert your LPH into a W with just a nozzle and aircap.
I like my 3000 Sata more than the 4000. The 4000 can lay a flatter job but the 3000 just seams easier.
i had a sata 3000rp for clear coat ,could not get on with it ,so i bought a devilbiss light .Fantastic gun, lays the clear coat so flat .also i dont get so many runs ,i’m heavy handed.

Thanks for the info Ryan and everyone else. It seems that all three guns get the job done. Everybody has their favorate. I am partial to Iwata and its probably my first pick. I didnt know that the LPH could be converted. Thats a cheap alternative. I with you on the HS+ thing. Im gonna burn another gallon or so to get the hang of it. If not im gonna try some lesonal glamor or universal. What size tip do you recomend on all three of the guns?
I use a WS400 SuperNova 1.4HD tip for clear, if you like Iwata and want the speed of an RP I suggest you get this gun, it is probably faster or just as fast as the RP, depending on how you set the gun up,
I set the fan from fully closed 1 and a half turns out and material wide open and it just wacks on the material with ease. I also spoke to a Sata Rep recently and asked him what he thought of the Supernova
and he said in the end these 2 guns are virtually the same with the finish they give so it just depends on preference and money in the end I guess.October 8, 2011 at 9:13 pm #33440A good old first gen RP with a 1.4 is most consistent with HS+ and ACIII,run it wide open at around 30-32psi.I agree with ryan about the 4000,nice gun and finish, just slower to use.I Think the first gen RP sprays the nicest out of the 3 versions but I use the 4000 the least. The trick with HS+ is to spray it with slight texture and let it do the rest.If you bag on 2 wet coats it will be on the floor,a little extra top also helps with stability.I can’t get it up here anymore but I miss it when doing completes on a hot summer day due to staying open longer and you can make a real slow mix, unlike superior 250.
