if u didnt, read my post about the tekna, guns off the hook, as far as atomization goes, and whatever gun you choose id go with a 1.3 tip. i also shoot dbc at times and the 1.3 tip helps lay it down flat with out disturbing the metallic orientation.

so i am maybe just putting on too much paint with the 1.4?

Use the Sata NR2000 for metallics and clear
Get the Iwata W400 (or LPH) for solid colors and clear

Use the Devildrips for sealer and primer

I’m guessing you are from the UK or Australia? The Tekna and GTI Pro are the same. Any of them would be a good choice. What product are you spraying?

    January 15, 2010 at 12:27 pm #18659

spraying pro spray and ppg deltron in solvent

and yeh i am in scotland lol

The GTI Pro gave you away! You can’t get them in the US or Canada. The Tekna is based off the GTI Pro though.

If you were going with Iwata I would get the new WS-400. It will be far superior to the W-400 you have available over there. Maybe Andy will chime in but he just got the WS-400 and seems to love it. For anybody in the US the W-400 you buy over here is a LV model with the wedge cuts in the nozzle. Everywhere else it isn’t. They still sell the older conventional model. I have both and the LV works much better.

If it was me I would use the Sata as a basecoat gun and get the Iwata or a Sata RP as a clear gun. They will both lay clear out very smooth.

Hey Ryan, which do you like better for clear… the w400lv or the LPH400? How do they compare?

    January 16, 2010 at 11:01 pm #18713

W-400lv hands down. Uses less paint and leaves a better finish. If you have to spray a true High Solids clear the LPH really struggles. With a MS clear the LPH does a good job but I think the W-400 has the edge.

I have both guns and I never reach for the LPH for clear.

Sata RP does a very good job also.

Thaks Ryan, I have used a sata NR2000 for years and decided I needed a new clear gun so I bought a CVI about a year ago and used the comp cap. I have never had so many problems with runs in my life 👿 So I bought the LPH400 and have had very good luck! So… I was just wondering if the W400LV would put out more material being that its a compliant gun, I would be getting runs again. How does the W400LV compare to the CVI?
I have used a 3000RP with a 1.2 on a job or two and it worked really good!

I also have a CVI. There is no comparison between the two for clear. I can get a nice job out of the CVI but I have got to cut back on my material alot. The W-400 puts it on slicker and with less effort.

Out of all the guns I own I only use my RP or my W-400 for clear.

Ha! i forgot i have an RP too. It’s been collecting dust since
the i started using the LPH.

    Old pic…

    Better late than never :woohoo:

Yes, I’m totally loving the WS400 clear gun I’ve got. All being well there’s a guy from Iwata UK coming to see me tomorrow – hopefully packing the base gun for me to try too. I had a guy working for me briefly on the prep side, and he owned one (WS400 base), and said it was the best base gun he’d ever used. Coming from a background of 20 years painting with SATA and Devilbiss, it must be pretty good.

Let you know how it goes, but here’s what the Clear version can do:

Not bad for my first ever go with it using a HS clear 🙂
