Sorry about that, you are correct. I’m just learning the newer guns and paints, but when I grow up I want to be as good as Andy T
 I hope that’s sarcasm 😆
I may be fast, but I never said I was any good :rofl
Just a compliment. Its obvious without being said, and my comment was just wishful thinking.Just a quick update for anyone who may search this topic in the future.
I received my new pair of WS400 Supernova’s today and the fluid tip is clearly stamped with the setup on both guns. 1.3HD and 1.3 Respectively. Must have just been the demo version that didn’t have the parts marked.
September 4, 2011 at 2:44 pm #32743I’d be interested to hear how you get on with the new high delivery (1.3HD) gun. I’ve heard of one person that actually found the regular set up quicker, as he had to take a little more time with the HD to get the same finish.
I’ve finally tracked down some demo guns, so I’ll be able to try the base version myself at last. My W400WBX is still doing the job for me, but the fluid tip is getting a bit worn after the hammering it’s had. It’s been a very gradual decline that I’ve just compensated for, but I’m definitely having to work a little harder to get the results I had when it was minty fresh.
Bearing in mind that the set up is 3 years old next month, and during that time it must have been used for 8 – 10 thousand jobs  I think it’s done all right for itself, and deserves a rest :rofl
I’ll report back with some results of both guns later in the week Andy. I only received them Friday afternoon and had a respray on a mini to do in Straight Gloss so haven’t put any paint through either. I’ve not tried the base version either.
I went for the 1.3 HD setup as I was still finding the 1.3 a bit slow for the larger jobs. If I don’t like it i’ll swap back to the 1.3 as I was getting nice results with it, albeit a bit slower than i’m used to.Hi mate.
Just thought i’d report back with some results from my guns. The 1.3 Base setup is absolutely fantastic! It lays base like nothing i’ve ever used before. So flat and even, i’m finding 7/10 jobs don’t even need to be drop coated which is improving time and finish when laying the clear afterwards. I’d highly recommend it as an upgrade. Blending of coarse metallics is effortless with a quick ‘flick’ at the end of each pass sufficient enough to make the blend invisible. I’ve also noticed a much improved colour matching, particulary on bumpers which are always a pain when painting edge to edge. (4 Turns out on fluid, 1/4 turn in from wide open on fan) Just incase you still have that demo gun.The 1.3HD Clear i’m not finding so great at the moment. I can’t exactly say whats wrong with it i’m just really struggling to get it dialled in for when I want to really glass up a pannel. I find this alot worse when using 6659 Nexa express clear at 3:1 when compared with other clears mixed at 2:1 (Standox VOC easy clear, VOC Premium clear, Max Meyer 0300 clear, Mipa HS Clear) Tried all of the above clears and still achieving less than desireable results when I really want to glass something up so its definately gun setup/application related. The only way I can currently describe the difference between the 1.3HD and the regular 1.3, is that you instantly notice the extra fluid available to you, yet it doesn’t seem to lay down as nice. However with the 1.3 I felt a little starved for fluid and large jobs were a bit of a chore.
Any idea’s from anybody here? I’m currently using 3.5 turns out on fluid. 1/4 turn in from wide open on fan.

October 11, 2011 at 12:27 am #33484This thread has helped me select a new gun. I need to replace my older lph400 (non lv) that was stolen. I’ve painted a few cars but I’m mainly interested in finishes on pianos and restoring furniture. I had the wonderful experience of sanding down the orange peel of a Chrysler black single stage Urethane on a grand piano and sanding back up to 2500. I learned why it’s best to put a contrasting color on top so you can see when you get to the bottom of the dips. I’ve also learned to spray up closer than I used to with my old Binks siphon cup. I got a direct number from MechanicsToolsWarehouse for Iwata. The rep was very knowledgeable and helpful. She said that the LS400H is built like a WS400 but it is compliant. My compressor does not have enough cfm to support either the WS400 or the LS400H. I ordered a LS400 Silver with 1.4 tip. I got a fantastic price. :dnc
February 2, 2012 at 8:09 am #35686I used it on a large set of Ethan Allen bedroom furniture and I don’t think my compressor was quite adequate. It looks great, but I still had more over spray than I was expecting. I got a new, larger upright compressor, and I’m just now striping a new Ethan Allen sleigh bed. I’ll be spraying it next week. I’ll update the results. Thanks for asking.
