Hey everyone!

I’ve decided to get 2 sanders: One DA sander and one random orbit sander (I think? )
I need these sanders for: initial sanding of body filler and primers, feather-edging, & sanding primer before topcoating.
But I have no idea what to buy. 3/32? RO? DA? speed?

I plan to get Ingersol Rand. Here is the list of their sanders:

which one/ones would you guys buy?

Thanks in advance.

I’ve got the 4151 and 4152,

buy a hutchins or dynabrade.

My hutchins red top composite is my favorite sander.

Dynabrade 6″ gear driven for paint removal and rough sanding.
for finish work I love my Airvantage 3/32 sander but you can’t go wrong with a dyanbrade spirit either

i was going through sanders like there was no tomorrow, until i bought the hutchins model. it worked well until it broke about 9 months later so i got it fixed under warranty and worked well until it broke again. Right now i have the new 3M sander and it works really well, no issues with it (thank god) and its not that expensive compared to other name brands (weird for 3M)

For me Dynabrade D.A. (dual action) sand and grind for roughing out and paint removal.

Rupes palm sander with ultra small orbit of 2.5mm the smaller the orbit the finer you can finish.

Ideal if you want to colour sand using systems such as 3m trizact and great for sanding primer.

both hooked up to dust extraction

Thanks for reply everyone.
I gotta add, I’m a hobbyist.

Aren’t Hutchins and Dynabrades in the $200+ range?

PS: there will be no color/clearcoat sanding as I just sand with a sanding block to remove dust nibs and runs.

I plan to get from this Canadian site to take advantage of free shipping, and no COD fees! Lots to choose from:

Bloverby, any hutchins/Dynabrade model that can sand bodyfiller, primer, featheredge and mabye remove a bit of paint together?(kinda like all-in-one)
Do you like those Ingersols?

hard ta beat the geared 6 inch orbital from dynabrade that dings talking about for what your asking those little buggers are animals

November 29, 2009 at 5:58 am #17326

Looks like price difference between ingersol and dynabrade is only $25, so thats a no brainer.
Looks like 3/16 is used for general purpose sanding and 3/23 is for color sanding. So 3/16 is the way to go. Anyone can confirm this?

The IR’s I have are lightweight and work OK. But they just plain feel crappy to me when used side by side with the hutchins or dynabrade.

There used to be a guy on ebay that always kept a listing for dynabrade orbitals really cheap.. $115 or so.

Damn ebay has some nice deals.
I’ll ask him about USPS shipping to Canada.
Thanks! :cheer:

i’m with you bloverby, i bought a brand new dynabrade 3/32 and cant stand it. all my sanders are dynabrade and 3/16, i use that orbit for everything from filler to colorsanding and it works great. the small orbit is just so slow and i saw no difference in buffing or the finish i got. i was recently at a 3m seminar and the rep comfirmed all 3/16 for all their finishing films and trizact.

I can get the Dynabrade 59014 Spirit for $125.99 through my Supplier.
I’m not sure how much it would cost to get it to Canada. But I could check.
Where are you located in Canada?

Hi RatStang.

I’ve decided to go with 3/16 orbit, which I think is the perfect for “all around” tasks.

So far my choice is like the one Bloverby mentioned, but 3/16 throw.
http://www.dynabrade.com/dyn09/content.php?page=quicksearch&search=21035

So far there are only 2 ebay stores that carry this: one of them wants $84 for shipping, other is asking $25 for shopping but its UPS. I hate their ridiculous COD fees.

BTW: how does these sander compare to 21035:

Is the silver supreme any better than spirit?

Okay, lets see.

My price on the
#59025 6″ Dynabrade Spirit 3/16s throw
$145.95

#21035 6″ Dynabrade Spirit 3/16s throw
$144.99

Looks like the 6″ #69029 Dynabrade Silver Supreme 3/16s throw
is actually on sale right now for $149.99

Shipping, I would assume if it would fit in a USPS medium flat rate box you’re looking at about $24 bucks. (That’s what I paid for the last flat rate box I sent to Canada.

I can usually get shipping less if I can send it as First class.
But first class is usually slower. (I’m not so sure about canada, but when I send first class packages over seas they take about twice as long as priority.)
