This is my co-worker’s 2002 Kia Optima will be painted metallic purple here’s the progress so far. I have a question..when I painted my car metallic blue electric I striped the hood and roof…how do you spray metallics on hoods and roofs without striping it?? I striped the primer too so I know it will happen with the metallic if I don’t figure it out!! I think I was holding the gun too close to the car but I’m not sure if that’s why it happened.

By the way I got a job at Robert’s Truck Center here in Abilene, doing bodywork fixing big rigs and large transportation vehicles I start on the 18th!

Congrats on the job, but you are going to need to learn how to use a bondo spreader. pic #4 looks like you slapped that stuff on with your hand

Ya I agree with Ding your spreader is your friend keep it in good shape and dont let anyone else use it spread it nice and the job will be much nicer, Dont do it all in one coat either build it up it may take a few coats. that was a lot of filler must of had some extra time to kill to mow down those mountains

looking good tho and I wish I had a GFS booth!

    What’s up with the fiberglass?

Looking good..Body filler loves bare metal..:weights.. For the stripes your getting in the metallics what kinda gun? tip size? reducer temp you are using? use 75-85% overlap. gun proper distance away from panel. putting base on way to wet with improper spraying technique..
