I have not sprayed any other waterborne product except Martin Senour’s Votex (same as s.w.)so I cant compare. But one of the things that helped us with the basecoat drying is not to spray such wet coats. For me, I cant get it to cover in 2 coats, I need 3 but it seems to dry quicker with the aid of a blower. My main issue is the lack of gloss with their top clearcoats, but with the help of this board (thanks) I am using FC710 with good results. Good Luck
I have used Cromax Pro and a little AWX and the PPG.
I personally do not like the AWX as it seems to have poor coverage and seems rather “watery” if that makes sense…also seems slower drying than the others. I found the key, as Doghousels mentioned, is to try and spray it dryer/lighter with more coats.
July 10, 2010 at 6:26 am #22611I have never sprayed AWX but what I have heard is that you HAVE to make sure that you get all the water flashed out before clearing. If you think its dry enough to clear over wait a bit longer. Other wise the clear will come off in sheets before the car will even leave the shop. Also, you need plenty of air flow, alot more than you need for solvent.
Dude…I’ve been in the trade since 86.I have used most paint systems for at least 6 months.BASF and Sikkens for the first 10 years.I did industrial for a year…that was definately a learning curve.LOL.I can make anything work..that’s what we do.My boss has to go back to Sherwill due to contract.I would choose something else for sure.
July 11, 2010 at 12:17 am #22638I don’t know much about AWX. Let us know how you like it once you use it a little bit!
October 18, 2010 at 11:19 pm #24352we manufacture a heated ventilation system to help dry waterborne paint, you can get it dry in approx 5-7 mins, take no air from compressor and our blowers are variable speed.
