    Hi guys.

Just signed up to the forum and thought I’d drop in and say hello to everyone and tell you all a little bit about myself.

I previously Worked in a commercial paint shop painting trucks and trailers for 5 years. this gave me a good grounding for learnign about prep and painting. I worked with a guy who had 10+ years of previous automotive painting experience so he passed on his knowledge to me in that time also.

I painted my own cars and friends cars/alloy wheels, boats, motorbikes etc in my own time to expand my knowledge and skill base.

After 5 years in the paint shop I sought out a new career in the oil and gas business and have found myself working in Norway on oil rigs in a 2 weeks on,4 weeks off rotation.

On my 4 weeks off I grew bored and was approached by an old friend to polish up a mk2 golf that was in a sorry state. It ended up being in a very bad state and a polish wouldnt sort it out. So the decision was made to give it a fresh lick of paint. So after the golf was painted and looking very very nice it was a set of alloy wheels, then some bumpers, then some more wheels . and things have just snowballed from there.

I’m now getting steady work from people wanting repairs and parts painted and I’ve been getting to grips with the new water borne paint (with some mixed results so far). Unfortunately due to only being able to paint in an old and not so weather proof barn the remedial polishing on the paintwork is quite labourious and this has now prompted me to seek out somewhere else to paint.

So that brings us up to today……I’m currently on the look out for a new house in the country with a suitable outbuilding or buildings to set up a nice home spraybooth and prep area. And I’ve also been in contact with a local auto repair shop who are gonna be able to give me 2-3 days of work a week with them so at least if anything I’ll be able to catch back up with all the new technology and the progress the paint industry has made in the last 5 years……and I’ll have access to a nice spraybooth :woohoo:

Normally I’d say avoid scotland in october as october is normally firmly in the grips of the winter weather….but for some reason we’ve just had the warmest days ever recorded in october and I’m sure they said on the news that it was also the hottest days of the year too…. maybe october would be a good time to pop over. haha
