Hi, I own an automotive performance shop, we don’t really dip into body repair, but there are such a lack of forums dedicated to this. We have a rot issue that we are considering to tackle ourselves, but would like some professional input (including a rough idea on what a professional job would cost). I hope you guys don’t mind, I am just at a lack of resources on the internet from people who actually do this for a job.
Car is a 1999 Eclipse GSX
Here are the pictures of what we are up against:

AnonymousMarch 28, 2011 at 2:39 am #29880Hey, welcome to the forum! If Ive deciphered the picture properly that’s the rear wheel well? Be pretty tough to replace that panel complete I’d imagine if its connecting to the quarter. I’ll let one of the resto guys advise on this one but doesn’t look like a simple job to me.
March 28, 2011 at 2:58 am #29881my opion would be this, from the photo it doesn’t look it has rusted through, i would clean it well (grinding) and shoot some expoy on it followed by som undercoating wet on wet and be done. (wet on wet= prime wait 10 mins, then undercoat)

No offense…but if you have to ask that, then this repair may not be for you. Rust repairs done improperly will not fix the issue, and in some cases will only make it worse (opening it up and making it more susceptible to more issue).

:agreeMy thoughts exactly
March 29, 2011 at 5:48 am #29899If it’s not for me, it’s not for me. Some guys have repaired it by cutting it out and welding sheet metal in. I am okay that route, I will just have them primer it and rattle can it since it is under a side skirt. I know no one can give me an exact price, but for basic cut and weld from what you can see, give me a very vague ballpark figure. We are a small shop and this is a shop car that can’t be driven to a shop yet, so just want a feel for what this is going to cost us.
