Had a customer bring by a trailer to be color matched to his Goldwing YR275M Crucible Orange. Found out that I cant match it in Sikkens ABP. Anyone have any luck with this with any of the other systems? I found some other paint companies that you can order it through but I am not familiar with those paint systems. I would much rather find something local in case I run into a issue and need more paint. Thanks for the help.

April 3, 2014 at 3:53 pm #46265I shot Crucible in 2011 with 55-Line. Match was good but that bike’s panels were 4 different values from the factory, which is not unusual on many of the Hondas. All the trike conversions I’ve done since then, which are primarily Goldwings, are shot in DBC. I’m pleased with the matches and the savings need no explanation. Jeremy on here shot a bike with Pro-Spray and had success. I have no knowledge of their % of satisfactory bike matches.
On-line paint companies you mention must be ColorRite and USA Paint. I tried Colorite once years ago and they failed. They refunded my money.
I use to do repairs for a bike dealer. I had good matches with PPG in Concept and Global. DBC/DBU should have the same colours. Not all colours had formulas and most didn’t have variants. For the odd ones, I would just flip through the chip deck and find the best match. A spectro reading might be helpful if nothing else works.
PPG products are decent to spray, so if its new to you, don’t worry.
April 4, 2014 at 2:34 pm #46279We have a PPG supplier that is not to far away. I will get ahold of the owner and see if he can take it by and get something matched up. I dont know of any place around here I can get Glasurit at. Hopefully this will work out without to much of a pain. I priced this thing really cheap because he is a good customer and I thought that it would be something different to paint. Thanks for the help and I will let you know how it works out.

April 4, 2014 at 4:51 pm #46282PPG code is 917278, tri coat and not cheap. Many Goldwings are tri coat. Hopefully you did not beat yourself up too badly on the estimate.

I got ahold of a PPG jobber on friday. for just a quart of ground coat and a pint of pearl and a gal of reducer it was $750.00. I have to get ahold of the guy and see if he wants to go through with it. I gave him a price with labor plus materials. I didnt really take this on to make any money, just thought that it would be something different to do for a good customer. I have to get ahold of him on Monday to see if he still wants to do it or not. He didnt really say one way or another what his budget is.
