Hey guys, new to this forum. I am hoping someone here can guide me in the right direction with my paint questions.

I have a 69 GTO convertible. Long story short i bought it sight unseen and the paint was horrible, as though it was done in a barn. I was lucky enough to find a 30 year auto body painter turned teacher. He told me he/his students would repaint my car, all at cost. They have disassembled some parts to get everything straightened out, and they are primering it this week.

Now comes my issue. I have decided on the house of kolor majic blue, but I am going to order it online and I have been getting 0 results from trying to contact house of kolor to ask them questions. I call the house of kolor customer service, and i get put from person to person and it’s not the right section, and then they put me through to a voicemail. I leave messages/email them with 0 response back.

The teacher said with the paint he uses it would typically take 3 quarts of unreduced paint in order to get the car done, but it has been decades since he used house of kolor so he cannot give me a definite answer as to how much. Because of this I decided I had better be safe then sorry and I will order 4 quarts of the paint just to be safe.

my issue is I do not know what products I need and what amount I need to order. I will attach part of my email that I sent to house of kolor, and maybe someone could shed some light on the situation:

    ————————————————————————————————————————————–

-Can the magic blue for sure be used as a basecoat/clearcoat or is it only a triple stage that goes with the kandy colors?

-Next, he told me the paint he usually deals in will take 3 quarts (before reducer) to paint it. If I were to order 4 quarts of majic blue do you believe this would be sufficient to paint the car?

-If I ordered 4 quarts of the magic blue paint, what other reducer/amount would i need.?

-Also, I am needing a clearcoat/hardener for this but I am not sure which will be required.
    ————————————————————————————————————

Since sending the email, I have found some info with reading around, but I am not sure I am 100% correct. I believe I would need to order

    – for the paint portion I would need 4 quarts of Majic blue pearl (PBC37) and ? amount of reducer (RU311)

-for the clear coat portion I would need 1 gallon of kosmic kolor urethane klear (UC35), 2 quarts of reducer (RU311) and 2 quarts of kustom catalyst (KU150)

If anyone could give me a definite answer as to what I have to order this would be great

well thats hok for ya. they really are a poor company who never did give a crap about anyone. ive sprayed probably 20 gallons of majic blue over the years and can say for certain it takes 5 coats to fully cover so you will need more than what the guy painting may be used to. im bad at judging amounts but 4 quarts is probably cuttin it close. if it was just the outside then maybe but with jambs, under hood and truck……i would get 6. despite what hok will tell you you can use any good high quality reducer in it as well as any good clearcoat over it. the pbc colors mix 2:1 so 4 quarts of color need 2 quarts of reducer. if you have a local basf jobber you can get that color mixed right out of the carizzma line and it will cover about 25% better. its czz-105
