Got this trunk lid in to redo. Backstory…about 5 years ago we did a 66 plymouth. At around this time matrix came into town, claiming to be the best blah blah blah. They gave us primer, base and clear to use on this car. A few days after painting we start to cut and buff. Car looks good..until the next morning starts hazing up. Buff it again….same thing happens. We go over it with the store…they pretty much had the mindset that we did something wrong…from not enough flash…..to using the wrong compound..lol. These cars take like 15 minutes to apply one coat inside and out…and it was done in the summertime at 95-100 degrees. That said we were still open to the idea of what WE did wrong…until the next set of events. Cut a 3X3 section off of the trunk lid…yes that’s right we scored a section and peeled the base and clear right off the well sanded primer. Put it in a ziplock bag and gave it to them. After a few days we find out that that ziplock bag mysteriously got lost on the way to their “lab”. They gave us nothing….no material (wouldn’t want the sh*t anyway)….no labor to re-do it…..NOTHING. After let it sit for a few weeks, we sanded it down and shot 3 coats of sikkens hs+ over top. Cut and buffed…looked good till now. Eventually will probably end up re-painting the whole car…but the trunklid came up first.
Moral of the story…..matrix :cens SUCKS. I was kind of over this nightmare until a few days ago when we got the trunk back.

DO you think maybe you can try again with one of their reps???December 1, 2012 at 3:55 am #39533I hate it..”I always feel like I’m on my own . If I had an adhesion problem…I could only imagine what they would say. Five years…. Jeeze.
December 1, 2012 at 4:04 am #39536If it comes down to doing the whole car…getting back in touch with them would definitely be in order. Probably a tall order….
I forgot which clear..either ms 42 or 52. I know it wasn’t AG40.

That’s why you go to a manufacturers certification course and learn proper procedures so you have a warranty ;)Get in touch with your jobber and talk to a paint rep,it will improve your business.
It would also be a good idea for you to look into ICAR or other courses for proper ways to do structural and sheet metal repairs,or hire a really good tech who can help you learn….just sayin :kofee
December 1, 2012 at 5:09 am #39540The rep dropped off a qt of primer that was supposed to be like PPG k38. stuff sprayed like chip guard and sanded like a rock. Tried some ms42 as well. so far AG40 is the only thing that I like out of their stuff.
December 1, 2012 at 5:22 am #39543Rep gave me some MS42 And I have not used it yet. Waiting for something that’s not critical to try it.

In fact, we won’t use it. We haven’t had the experience ourselves, but, friends of ours in the business have. One case in point was a custom job done by a shop in our area owned by a good friend of ours. The vehicle involved belonged to good customer of his and had requested Matrix on his vehicle. The car was prepped and painted and they had exactly the same results that you had. Looked great for a day and then dulled down to an almost “flat” look. The shop attempted to “fix” the problem only to have the same thing happen again. After contacting the company, the shop received the same type of answers you did and the company assumed that the shop had done something wrong. We’ve known these guys for a long time and although they are probably one of our biggest competitors, they are also good friends of ours and we know what type of work they do. Our guess is that if you did some research, you’d find that you’re definitely not the only ones who have had this problem.
