Martin, A guy that worked for me a while had a pair of stones made by meguiars in 1000 and 2000 grit ( or something ).
I’ve never been able to find them on sale in the UK though.
Finally a run free proper job..
All I can say about the AirGunsa AZ3HTE2 is that it really performs great.. Especially with UHS and HS clears..
No runs this time.. I ditched the ugly cheapo colomix clear.. Got my self a proper HS clear from HBBody 2:1 with anti scratch.. The finish I got from my gun is true match to factory audi/vw finish.. what I need exactly for this job.
Also the other day I was doing the custom job on my uncle’s GSXR and it layed the GLASURIT 923-447 clear flawless.. The best investment of my hobby was this gun..
I had played with 3000 and 4000 rp and they are too fast.. Got to play with WS400 Pininfarina too much tax to import it.. and got the AZ3HTE on recommendation of NFT5..
Anyways.. reflecting on the clear coats..
El Cheapo clears – don’t know how to work with them.. at least for my skill set.. they always run..
Expensive clears – yeah a lot of $$ but they are superb…What is your opinion on this?
They can be very tricky. If a razor blade is bent you can carefully shave the run down, then it gets to be like blocking bodywork on any reverse/low crown, and is a matter of finding something suitable you can use as a block. Using masking tape on the highest parts of the body lines will help make sure you don’t burn through prematurely. Very tricky, but it some instances it can be done.
A couple of years ago i was rushing round working on 2 jobs + doing quotes and sorting customers out with the finished cars (gaffer was away ) and stupidly placed some super glue on the hood of a car,a new shiny black mercedes ! Got called away to do a quote and returned to find the wind had blown super glue all over tis nice shiny paint on the hood :headsmack: anyways i got all of it off using the putty trick and trust me it was hard work ! Used the putty 3 times to get it down to the lear coat but got it off and there was lots of glue to shift. Sanding with 400 and it was twice as tough as clearcoat ! its a life eh ?
September 24, 2013 at 4:57 pm #44617The pumice stones are made by Meguiars. They come in 1000 and 2000. They take a while but I’ve used them to get some pretty nasty runs out.
September 24, 2013 at 9:53 pm #44618I’ve actually managed to find some over here (eventually!)
400, 1000, 1500, & 2000 grades are available.
There’s a decent write up on how to use them here
