I have sprayed my own shit and a couple jobs only spraying once every couple of months doesnt give me the confidence to get hired as a painter else were… the painter makes 5 dollars an hour over my pay. I have spoke to the managers they cant do anything as for as a high percentage for me because we have to cover the other kid. I said fire him their response was okay but the day you or the painter call out and there is only one of you in the paint shop that day we are hiring a third person back in here. its a dealership a lot of stupid b.s….at this point as I once herd some one say the grass isnt always greener but at least it is a change of scenery.

I have worked in 3 dealers, I understand the BS. If they really want a 3rd person, can they get rid of this guy and higher someone else?

If you do decide to move on, look around a lot and make a good sound decision.

I just left a dealership that I worked at for 10 years. Its the same way everywhere. I was one of two painters. We only had 2 bodymen and theres no way they could keep 2 painters busy. For some reason they always had to have 2 painters at all times, but never thought they need 3 body guys. IMO, you should ask you boss if you can be a full time painter and use the other prepper to help the both of you guys. It should be a team. Both painters should get the same hourly rate and both should pay a % to the prepper and the shop should pay the rest of his wage. So lets say you get 18.00 per refinish hour, the 3.00 should come from you and 3.00 should come from the other painter and 4.00 should come from the shop.

Its the painter and I and the little help the 3rd guy is, against 5 body guys and they cant keep us busy. But the service manager at our dealership is trying to step in and run it like a service department and cram more guys in there. back when we had 3 good A techs they complete way more work than the 5 techs we have now. the shop isnt big enough and we spend more time moving crap around than actually working. we only have one paint booth thus far, second to come spring time supposedly, I don’t see it reasonable to have 2 painters in one booth. my thought on it is if I feed him consistently we should be even on pay scale 50% of hours and pretty dang close in wage. the painter I work with has it made there and wont give anything up and I don’t blame him because I would do the same thing.
