I am working with an insurance company auditing shops the last few months to make sure what’s agreed and payed for is bein done. I get to visit 5-7 shops every day all different types and sizes. I find most have picked up since last year and that the guys who are really suffering are the ones who relied heavily on trade work last few years and didn’t bother trying to get a retail/insurance customer base.
I’m not so sure about the quality element, some of the places I go to are busy and only work from sheds and are total cowboys.
Then again when I look at a job it can be shit and a customer just sees shiny new panel.
March 6, 2010 at 8:52 pm #19924Local SF estimatics super told me just last week that three local select service shops were set to close down. I didn’t ask which ones. Suppliers confirm most shops are dead or near dead. Some have trimmed days for staff.
I’m slower than usual for this time of year for me, but it is always a little down between the holidays and tax time. Gives me time to devote to restorations that I have waiting.
Had two Harleys in one day get dropped off for paint and flames. So there’s always something to do.
