I thought I’d just create a separate thread to hear some of the other things people have heard, maybe to ease the pain of what I have to listen to. These are the ones from my other thread:

    Quotes from our new bodyman

“the reason you feel a low spot in my bodywork is because that’s where two polyester fillers feather into each other.”

Had a beginner ask why he had some shiny edges where he primed (obviously not backsanded enough), his theory:

“its been painted before, thats why the edges shine.”

“UV primer always rings” -> he’s been arguing this for months with me, after a few jobs came out perfect he changed his stance to “it depends on the humidity”

    A new one today:

“I didn’t miss the gradual dents in the hood, you guys must have baked it too hot, it warped the aluminum.”

Had a good one from another painter a while ago to:

“I got the run because you pulled the car into the booth on an angle”

Has anyone had the guy that always tells you to turn the air pressure down on the gun? That drives me nuts. Then I ask him to show me the “right way” and he turns the pattern down to about 4in and sprayed at about a 16in distance with about 15psi with a gun that requries 35…..”It saves material”

I’ll point out some obvious waves in the the panel while it’s still in primer and he’ll always say this: “Well, ya see there’s a curve here, a curve right here, a body line there, and a curve goin that way, so it won’t be noticed when it’s painted”
Then when it’s all painted and glossy, I point it out to him again only to get: “I think your eyes are just playin tricks on ya, that panel looks great”
I don’t know if it is just a denial thing, or if they really are not capable of seeing crappy work. Here’s another: The painter I worked with at my last job would rub an old worn out gray scotch brite across a dirty blend panel for 5 seconds and call it done(so that from 5 feet away it looked almost completely untouched). When I asked him about it he explains: “as long as there are some scratches, paint will stick fine”
Man, I could go on all day about some more retarded things I’ve heard from these “veterans”. Just don’t forget that “anything finer than 320 grit will cause adhesion issues for base coat!”

One that makes me madder than hell is when I have to ask them why something wasn’t done and I get I didn’t know.Of course I reply that it was on the detailed work order and here it comes well i didn’t read it.AAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH.Anyway thats the one I get the most of.I like telling them when they ask about a supp that their isn’t one and of course they filled out the request form I just tell them I didn’t read it LOL.I like to wait till they go over their payroll sheets and see that i have the supp on it.

My personal favorite excuse. I reply while scratching my head “I think this car has been in a wreck”

Today, while the same bodyman glued in a patch over the rusting quarter (fuel door area) of a malibu.. (not a fan of the glue in patch first off, but it is an approved procedure so I’ll let it be.) anyhow he dripped some panelbond onto the bumper and while removing the panel bond the paint came up off the bumper and needed to painted now to. He put the blame on the fuel door for causing the drip….no not his fault, the fuel doors!!! I don’t see how people go through life like this, can’t accept responsibility for anything!
