I was in a huge hurry the other night and dumped silver in my clear gun!!!!!!
I said “f” it and sprayed the car anyway. As a dude note I didn’t care for how the Sata 4000 sprayed metallics, my normal 3000 has a much nicer metallic fan. Anyway I’m not going to give up on it yet, it’s been soaking anftet a paint stripper bath inside and out. Using new brushes to clean and I got my wides steam cleaner as well. Any more ideas for a SUPER clean out?

the paint stripper followed by a good cleaning with gun wash will probably do it. But soaking it like that may destroy the seals. Guns aren’t really meant to be soaked for long periods of time.

What type of base are you trying to get out of it? Water/Solvent? Was it activated?

how bout just rinsing the thing with lacquer thinner. Paint stripper is made for removing cured paint. just clean the gun with thinner and brushes and move on with life :pcorn:

Yea, its not that big of a deal. You would be surprised of how many painters out there that are using one gun for base and clear.

The paint stripper was only for the needle/tip (with seal removed) and the cup taken apart was soaked. I did a MAJOR cleaning of EVERYTHING and even used a pressure steamer. Seem to be good but I now it’s not a metallic virgin anymore…. 🙁

Seriously, its not that big of a deal, the other painter at work used one gun for sealer, base, and clear(still looks like new) when we were using solvent. As others have said just take it apart and clean it with lacquer thinner and call it good.If a guy is anal when it comes to gun cleaning you can get away with it.

I occasionally use one of my Teknas for blowing in clear on odd jobs…then it goes back to being used for water base. I just take it apart and clean it good, making sure it is completely free of water/solvent between things.

When I was apprenticing I used a GTi for sealer, base and clear. Never had an issue.

Why exactly is it not recommended we use an ultrasonic cleaner on the guns individual pieces? seems like that would do a pretty good job.

Can’t say I’ve ever had an issue like that. My guns tend to stay spotlessly clean, especially on the inside.

You’ll be fine. Easiest way to clean the inside of the nozzle is to trim down a chopstick and wrap a towel around it with thinner. The soft wood of the chopstick won’t hurt the inside of the nozzle and it will get into all the tight spots.

As long as the nozzle, needle and fluid passage are clean there will be no problems.

When I first read the title I was a expecting ” I left my gun in kleanstrip for a couple days and it ate all the chrome off”…

Like others have mentioned.. nothing a good cleaning cant remedy.
But this thread has introduced a couple new cleaning methods I had not heard of before.
