Anybody here ever shoot imron 6000? I have a customer that wants me to spray their boat with a metallic pearl burnt orange and they want Imron 6000. If anyone has shot it before is there anything you can share as far as how to shoot it, does the clearcoat flow out nice? Can it be wetsanded and polished when dry? Pretty much any info will help. Thanks guys!
May 16, 2014 at 3:46 am #46648I’m not sure they still make 6000 :stoned Imron 5000 means its single stage,6000 means bc/cc.The new stuff is imron EB (elite base),Imron can be a real pain in the ass to spray,it does not spray smooth and it looks chunky and peely, thats just the way it is.Tell your friend to find another product, imron is uber expensive and not user friendly at all and buffs like concrete.
May 18, 2014 at 7:25 am #46661i have many years in the marine industry and i gotta say the boat guys are so stuck on the name imron its not even funny. people dont have to know anything at all about paint and yet they know it MUST have imron on it if it floats. there are so many other paints out there that are better. when it comes to paint the marine industry is way behind the times. i have painted small boats that range from $20k to large luxury yachts over $5-7mil. as long as you use good quality products it will be fine. last boat i did was a $200k chris craft. brand new off the showroom floor. used spi epoxy as a sealer, wanda base and spi clear. sanded and buffed. looks great and as durable or more than the single stage they had on it from the factory.
