Not sure what the issues were. But I’m sure oevrreducing and properly shouldnt be used in the same sentence. If it needs to be over reduced to work, then it’s not doing what it is supposed to do when mixed properly. over reducing a product can cause issues as well. as far as cost of paint products, last time I ordered paint I didnt tell the jobber I needed 4.5 hours worth of clear. Job cost everything and bill properly for the materials that are used.

Tyopically paints are reduced 1:1. Transtar allow for 1:1 to 1:1.5. Some might not have know that it could be “over reduced.” And that how paint and materials are billed in Collision work. $32x the number of paint hours.

I really don’t understand why some people are concerned with the price of materials and want the cheapest they can get.As ding has stated if you estmate and jobcost properly the price of materials is a non issue. You couldn’t pay me enough to use that stuff on a daily basis, all it would do is cost me money.

well aware of how insurance companies pay for materials. they also pay material costs on supplements when they are costed out through programs such as mitchell material calculator, paintex, or even your own paint system software. any good paint system will have job costing built into the mixing computer software.

Interesting I’ve never heard of those. I’ll look into them!

Profit. And the material cost of the expensive stuff would price me out of a lot of jobs. If color match is good and doesn’t delam how could it cost you money

Id still like to hear from some people who have used either of these products!

    1.your not estimating properly.
2.its a cheap product that will not have color match compared to the big boys. That is why paint is expensive,it costs$ for research and development,to match colors.

I personally know of a good number of shops who make over 40% profit on materials while using what is perceived as an expensive product. And their reimbursement is $28 a hour.I also know of shops who can’t make any money on paint while using “cheap” paint.

You have to look past the price of a can and actually see what it costs to paint the car.

I can promise you Transtar will not have the color match of the majors. With the amount of time, money and research the majors put into color development it would be damn near impossible. Make sure to try before you buy to be sure. Pick a few late model harder colors for each and try them out.

Im with you Ryan. Has anyone here that’s used transtar speak on its color match. The furthur I read its getting more negative than positive press on color match. Got me a little worried. Now I don’t see as much negative press for the Matrix line. Anyone used that?

The bad thing here is I’m really tight with the PPG distributor I just can’t see paying $100+ more on a quart of red paint. I’m not in a big city and we only average 8-12 cars per week. About 40% being insurance jobs. I lower the rates a little for out of pocket customers and the crazy thing is is that I’ve been making Omni and crossfire work for years so i’m thinking almost any system with an alternate deck will be an improvement…

From a custumers stand point I would not want a low buck paint on my car, so why would I use it on someone elses. You get what ya pay for. espcially in the color department. Make your proffit elseweres. Thats the way I see it, but good luck with your choice and HAPPY TINTING!!!! 😛

Ok here it goes matrix is a knock off of dbc right down to mixing formulas so if you had dbc you know how matrix is going to spray but you don’t have ppgs color research that being said if your not doing mostly hi dollar collision repair but looking for better quality and over all color match you could go with omni plus same as shop line plus just different labels I use omni plus 80 percent of time and dbc the rest except I use dt reducers all the time and dx57 to activate get the same coverage as dbc in the same amount of coats for alot less money but no variants you can even mix try coats guy down the road has transtar and with variants still not bendable

    October 11, 2013 at 5:45 am #44894

Thanks! How would you compare omni plus’ standard to the dbc correct alternate?

    October 11, 2013 at 6:04 am #44897

It is going be popular color position or standard but I have been vary impressed with usually if its not blendable its a odd import color or one with a vary odd flop in that case do two coats with plus and a final with dbc so the man don’t get all your money they even use the same balancing and binder clears just lower price mix them the same to make dbc 500

This is a very good idea cromax my jobber said that he did know of one Omni plus bank they put in but the rest dbc. He messaged me today telling me he was getting a alt deck ready for me. Im gna compare some prices in that category and see if he says its just as good as dbc standard! Awesome tip on the 500 too that stuff is magic for metallic! How many do you spray a month where youre at?
