Installing new booth: Double intake filters Vital?

Hey guys.. I’m going to be relocating my business and am getting another paint booth. I’ve drawn it down to getting a full down draft which will be an upgrade for sure from my cross draft I have now. The beauty is in the new building there’s a great partition isolated from the body shop to put the booth in! The ugly is that I don’t have enough clearance to have a plenum for a set of prefilters. I REALLY wanted that extra set of intake filters but if the booth goes in that room that’s isolated I just won’t have the headroom.
Woukd y’all rather have a double intake filtered booth in the body shop or a single layer setup in a room by itself away from all that dust!?

We have one of each at the shop I work at.The 30 year old homemade downdraft has the air make up on the roof and no prefilter before the intake filters.The new one does and it seems to work ok,Im not convinced that it really makes a difference.It also depends what kind of booth you put in,our newer one has the air makeup/exhaust /prefilters on the side of the booth so a low roof is not a concern.
Jayson is there a filter on the inside of the makeup itself? I won’t have one of those til I save up a few more grand.. I didn’t think I really wanted one but now you’ve introduced that possibility of having the pre filters I like it more. I sprayed in a side draft booth without one for 7 years and was very pleased with the cleanliness of the jobs. So you say the prefiltrs are on the side of it!? I’d like to see one like that!
No there are pre-filters before the air goes into the intake fan then it goes past the burner into the plenum into the ceiling filters and enters the booth.
Most of the new booths have everything off to the side kind of like this one.

The thing I like about having the prefilters is that their vertical to the floor, so dust wont settle on top of them like it would on the single set of ceiling filters.
Now I was talking to a booth salesman, and consider that he was selling a booth without the prefilters, he said that the ceiling filters remove something like 99% of particle so a set of filters before those wouldn’t really do much. But I had such good results in the side draft booth I sprayed in with the double filters that im almost scared not to have them :blink:
I really love the idea that the booth would be isolated from the body shop in that one room so I need you guys to help convince me that the single set of ceilng filters will still give me the great results lol
