So one of the guys that has purchased parts off of me ended up getting hit by some girl in a van text messaging.

And he’s asked me for some advice on dealing with the insurance company.
It sounds like he got tweaked pretty hard up front.
Shifted the whole front over a bit, Wiped out the drivers door, fenders, hood, bumper. ect…Well here’s his problem.
He’s stuck dealing with her insurance company.
The car only has about a 1800-2500 Book Value.
And it sounds like it is likely going to get totaled out.
But he’s got about 5 grand in mods done to the car.
Suspension work, engine work, transmission, rear end, interior, guages…
You know. the typical works. But his problem is he misplaced and or didn’t get many of the receipts.
So her insurance company is trying to shank him on the parts. But now he has got them to the point where they said they would “Work with him on the value”…
And he wants to buy the car back to recover his parts. But he is worried that the more value he proves he put into the car. the more he is going to have to pay to get it back as a salvage to use as a parts car.
What would you suggest he do in this kind of situation?
Go all out and list absolutely every part in it so he can get more from it. or be very vague and only list the highlights so he can buy it back cheaper? My theory here is go all out and get whatever he can out of it.
List all the parts he’s got in it. Do his research and include typical retail value (Even show proof of such value through stores/Internet ect.)Treat it as though he doesn’t want the car back and he wants to recover every dime possible.
Put his foot down, accept no less. Then once he gets the check. Make an offer to wheel and deal to get the car back. That way he can recoup the value of his parts. And if they don’t bite on the offer for the car. He can walk.
August 23, 2009 at 3:36 am #15507He should just take total loss offer, buy it back and swap the parts over to another fox body. The car is what’s damaged not the aftermarket parts and those cars are a dime a dozen.
August 23, 2009 at 3:42 am #15508Im with Blovery.. I have been in that situation before on an 84 I built from the ground up.. I let them total the car, give me like $3500 for it and then I bought the car from them at salvage price and still had money in my pocket.. all I needed was a shell 😛
He should settle for no less than what he would sell the car for in preloss condition of course less the 20% it takes to retain the car. Its just swayed a bit not bad really probably dont even need a core support. Have it pulled and kinks removed at a shop for $1000, then hang a tong yang doghouse.
