So a buddy of mine called me and said he’d picked up a Devilbiss gun from a car boot sale, that it was in need of a clean, and could I get it working for him.

“Of course” I say, until I saw it 😆 😆

I think I’m going to have my work cut out with this one, even though it does have a few new seals with it :deadhorse Wish me luck :rofl

Yes, my old boss had one for nearly 15 years and only ever put one needle & nozzle kit in it!

He never let it get in that state though 😆 For giggles I’m just going to rinse it through and see how it sprays before stripping it.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, i cut my teeth on those guns back in the old lacquer days. Man how time flies. (our primer gun looked just like that one does)

Awesome 😆 All I did was blow 1/4 pot of thinners through it to rinse it out, then banged some clear on a black car.

Came out pretty well too. A little bit heavy and peely, but considering it was never made to atomise ultra high solid clears I was pleasantly surprised. It’s certainly nothing that wouldn’t cut & buff out, and I reckon with a bit of tuning or maybe a more suitable product it’d be fine. Certainly good enough for my buddy that does the occasional home spray job.

It’s also come up looking pretty good too. I’ll get a picture up when I’ve put it all back together.

All it had was a good clean and I changed the needle packing to cure the sticky needle. The old one had collapsed and there was a brand new one in packet in the pot!!

Sprays really well now after scrubbing out all of the holes. Good shape & size to the fan, with just a hint of a crescent to it. For what this guys going to use it for (spraying a ’68 VW in 2K single stage) it’ll be fine, and not bad at all considering how old it must be.

You know if you put a 9000 air cap on it and a 1.6 or 1.4 fluid tip in it(from a gfg) it will spray pretty damn good.I like those old guns, use quite a few back in the day, thanks for sharing. :cheers
