What a great find, this site. Just got an Iwata 400 HVLP. Used a Devilbiss GTI Millenium for the last several years. Used the Iwata for clear twice so far. I shot Diamont DC 92 and Dupont 72500S. The Iwata is slower than what I am used to but it does save a lot of material. I shot at 16 PSI as recommended and tried to keep it about 7 inches away but that is hard after 20 plus years of about 2 times that. The problem I have is a significant orange peel. I have the proper reducer temp et cetera. I tried to get too close and got a hanger where I went too slow and got too close. I have a 1.4 tip and had the material screw out pretty far. Any ideas? For my next trick I am going to use about 20 or more PSI and stay at the 6-7 inches. It was all I could do not to get a Sata 3k RP but went with Iwata based on word of mouth. I’m looking forward to being involved in this site.

Welcome to the site & look forward to your participation.

I’ve found it incredibly difficult to spray at Iwata’s 16 psi recommended pressure. I’ve always bumped it up to at least 25 to get an ideal finish. I did spray at 16 for a while when I first got the gun but started bumping it up a bit from their. One other thing is Iwata recommends the pressure being set with the gun spraying full trigger, the pressure will drop a bit when the materials going. I haven’t had the chance yet to spray with a 1.4 with this gun but I think I’m missing out, especially with some of these thick glasurit clears.

I’ve never sprayed that dupont clear but I can remember the DC92 that sprayed like water, I’d have to set up drip buckets under my paint jobs :-). It did flow nice, but a bit challenging to spray.

Just toy around with it a little. You’ll get it right.
I generally hit wide open and 18-20 PSI.

A 1.4 is a little big for 72500. It will work fine but you need to bump your pressure up as everyone else said. I am more along the line with Jimmo, I would try around 23-25 psi. Also try dialing your material a little, maybe 3 to 3.5 turns out from closed.
I couldn’t comment on DC92. The only experience I have with that clear was a demo I did years ago. The only thing I remember was a car with runs!

    I get my LPH-400 soon and I can’t wait. It’s got a 1.3 and 1.4 tip. We shoot mostly Limco 4100 and 4500 clear.
