Finally got some time to get my own project in the booth…bin busy back at the Resto shop getting several projects ready for the big show ( Powerama ) in a couple of weeks. U-tech Polybase with the RP and topped with U-tech 4. 0 select Clear with the Iwata 1.3 @ 30psi or so. Good enough for a driver…a few nibs to knock off but typical of the old crossflow. The rest of the car will get done as soon as I seam seal it and get it down to the shop.

What’s up with the Camaro w/ Baldwin Motion paint in the background?
April 13, 2009 at 3:03 am #13950Looks good charlie, nice work,Ive always been a fan of novas.Have you ever tried any of the lesonal clears, glamour clear is a nice product and not much more money than 4.0 clear.Do you like the lph or have you tried the w-400 compliant gun?

I’ve used the Lesonal Universal Clear..it’s the shop clear…it’s nice..but the Select is cheaper :)..it’s a bit ‘yellow’r than the Lesonal but OK for completes. This is the first Iwata I’ve tried…I’m going to fart with it some more but it looks like a keeper.
30 PSI on a LPH? :woohoo:
That is damn high.
Mines lucky if I ever crank it over 20…
RP guys always have trouble with Iwata’s they just don’t seem to understand that the less air you put through it the better.Looks like it turned out good though.
Apparently..:S yer supposed to set the air psi with all adjustments wide open and trigger pulled all the way…I set it at around 26 or so…( anything less is too slow for me ) but it crept up to 30 or so when I spray ( 2.5 turns out…about a turn in on the fan.
April 13, 2009 at 7:41 am #13957Looks really good! I can vouch for the Lesonal Glamor clear. It’s some very nice stuff only drawback is that it’s not an easy buff.
I always have my pressure turned up with my Iwata’s. I don’t think the gun performs well at their recommended 16psi.
April 14, 2009 at 1:12 pm #13966Im with you on the increased pressure for Iwata.. I run my at around 25 lbs for clear.. Lays clear much nicer at that for me than 16.. I dont use the LPH at their recommended settings 😛 as I have always been told its simply a starting point 😉
Great gun, but kinda slow for me spraying over large panels.
That 16 PSI is recommend for HVLP setup.Setting the pressure to 25-30 PSI produces LOTS of overspray with this gun and if you reduce the clear, its even
worse!Honestly, I think my Sata RP produces less overspray than the iwata, I have not sprayed much with it though.
The orange cap is a must for metallic and general basecoats IMO, its even used to spray clears by some.
