Cool andy,i may try the ws400 for the basecoat then but do you think i would need to dial it down a bit as its a hd ? Also if i used it to base what would a good starting point be 1.5 bar ?

I haven’t used mine for basecoat but yeah should be good for it, I use a wbx 1.4 for basecoat at the moment.

Is it 0200 that your using at work?

Well i went in today as ive been off a few days and we ran out of the max mayer so i couldnt look,we had some lecler hs2000 macrofan which we get sometimes too,i quite like that one to be honest.i like the max mayer but it smells awfull( i know ya shouldnt sniff it,lol :stoned )
What pressure do you use for your base with the wbx ?

I sprayed with that stuff over water basecoat once on a training day (only time ive been inside a booth) it went on nice but died back a little after bake.

I’m still on solvent basecoat and usually spray at around 26-29 psi, everything wide open on the gun.

    Cheers

Not sure mate, it’ll depend on the base. Start out with what the manufacturer recommends (if you know).

For the DeBeer water I’m on it’s 2 bar for the main coats then a light drop coat at 1 bar, so you might have to play and see.

for what its worth, ive read where someone was spraying with the lph400 and 2″ from the panel, that sounds about right lol
the supernova is supposed to be the upgrade to the lph400 its sprays a little different with a different pattern.
the supernova ws400 hd is supposed to upgrade the w400 lv4, im posting a panel sprayed with a w400 and i assume the ws400hd would probably to the same thing only faster. this is about 5 inches from the panel fan dialed in a bit to get more fluid output and about 20-23 pounds

Thank bud, looks good- is that off the gun ? Ill have to crack the supernova out again as i started getting pretty good results with my sata 3000 digital so ive stuck with that a bit now,is 20 to 23 psi for clear with the supernova ? Isnt that a bit low ? Im not a trained painter so am willing to learn as much as possible.
Do you full time painters go by a tds for the paint you use and stick to that or get tips from the supplier of the gun and adjust it to your style ? I ask because i find it difficult to find out what pressure to spray and distance to panel when using a new gun.

Stick to the gun manufacturers recommendations.

yep str8 off the gun, my supernova says 19psi on the cap my w400 says 20psi i spray up to 30 sometimes but mostly 22-25
im not a full time painter but i adjust my gun to the guns manufacturer max and them some. so for the w400 20psi recommended i use 25 you can use higher or lower when you get more experience but stay within the limit until u get used to it.the supernova sprays like the lph so dial it in some and move a little faster, that thing will be slow if you are using non high solids.
look at the psi rating on your air cap

Carl, I think maybe Reckless is talking about the LS400 supernova, a model we don’t get in the UK, which does indeed recommend 19 PSI inlet pressure. Our WS400 recommends 2.0 BAR, ~29 PSI. I tend to run very slightly below that but for starters stick to the recommended pressure.

Also stick to the TDS for the material you are using. Try and reduce the number of variables as much as possible by only adjust one thing at a time. If you’re changing pressure, viscosity, distance etc all at the same time you’ll not know which of them is helping or which hindering, so keep as many things stock as you can and perhaps try different distances first. Once you find one that works well stick to that and maybe try tweaking gun speed a little to see if things bet better or worse. Then maybe overlaps, then back to distance etc etc.

Only change one thing at a time or you’ll get lost. It may take a while to find exactly what you’re looking for, but remember you’re just fine tuning to find that last few % to suit your material, technique and environment. 🙂

the Iwata Bellaria is based on the W400 but with the flat wide pattern of the supernova ,much cheaper to buy and service than the nova ,however after all that my mate got himself a couple of AirGunza HTI guns and they lay clear fantasticly for less than £100 a piece ,there is also an S model which is supposed to be even better but from the results i have seen with the Gunza HTI so far im very impressed with the basic HTI

personaly i think having a reasonable quality gun and getting to know it well is the key to good results ,i never pay a lot for my guns so i tend to swop and change just for the hell of it ,i have used the supernova and they do work very well indeed but would i splash out top doller for one ,hhmmm

I agree mate,i only paid £180 as it was a one off deal so not too bad a price.as you say i just need to learn its tweaks to get better results. Where can you get the air gunsa guns from over here paul ? You used to talk well of these guns on kkl but i cant seem to find em for a good deal in uk ?

£150 here. Second hand but unused from Ebay :rock

They seem to be fetching a lot more these days though!
