I have a small shop, myself and 2 bodymen and I am looking for ideas on tracking job costs. I am able to track paint products on the computer and with a small shop I monitor the labor but looking for a better way to track the repair materials. We use to have a box for every job that the spent sandpaper rags and misc. items would go into and then just list on the work order used items like masking, filler, and what not stuff but I have gotten lazy and haven’t done this for a while and I am trying to get a handle on some costs. Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have found that nearly all jobs are unique , I use a sort of charge out guide which use smaller increments
like for example 3 ounces of compound and divide the price by the unit cost with a small mark up. Just estimate a little
more than you will require and use the remainder as profits or even for redos.

    dont be so lazy 😉
with experiance you should know approx how much sandpaper should be used on each panel for each process. should be able to do a close approximation of cost at the inset of the repair. there are expensive programs that you can use too. each tech can log into a job on the comupter and input the items as he uses them.
