I was looking around the site and seen a link from a sponsor I guess on the side bar that says secrets of painting. Has anyone bought the CD he is selling? I don’t usually buy stuff like this but I was thinking about it. I can always learn more about painting and body work as I am pretty new to this. I really enjoy doing this stuff for some reason. Maybe it’s the satisfaction of the end results?

i dont think the cd’s or books work, besides them still being outdated, the information is always about safety and tools. waste of time and money to me, you can do what i did and just learn as you go and look at pictures of work in progress and try and guess what others did and just apply. this field is all experience and its gonna take a few screw ups to become a pro at it. best of luck

That’s what I have done so far. I learned everything I know all by myself. The first car I painted I had no clue what to do but just did what seemed to be the logical way. Just asked the guys at the paint store when I needed something and they were always good to help out.

First off NEVER Trust a guy at the Paint store!
If he were any good he would be doing this stuff for a living!
And he isn’t so Take that for what its worth!

Second dont know what video your talking about exactly but I have seen some really good ones! A bunch right here on this sight! for free! Of course the ones you buy cover there Butts about some bit of safety stuff they have too Lawsuits! but there’s a lot of good info in there too! especially for guys just starting out. so there you go! Thats my Bit on Video’s.

Sounds like your a lot like me and just really starting out and can Paint, Well cool if you buy good equipment follow a Paint mfg instructions and follow what the Guys here tell you (There ALL posting REALLY good info ALL of them!) youll have few problems, But finding info on how to actually fix Bent and wrinkled sheet metal is an Art While Most ALL of these Guys here are good at it Few can actually explain it right in a way you can understand it any way, They just know how to do it! After all Most of them learned by doing it and watching someone that was a Mentor to them.

What I have found with a few of the videos I have purchased there’s some good info on painting Do’s and don’ts but Very little out there on how to actually fix dents! and actually working with sheet metal, One of the Best guys out there giving out really good info on working with sheet metal is John Kelly at

    http://www.ghiaspecialties.com/

This guy is a Master I cant say enough Good things about this guy and his Talents except that he is a Master!

There are a bunch more Guys out there doing the same stuff and offering Classes on how too Work with Sheet Metal but not to many making videos.
Few out there give out more free information than John Kelly. He posts over on 101 under the Welding section occasionally. His web sight is Packed with free info and he posts free videos on You tube as well! check it out lots of good stuff there!

A real good video series is made by Kevin Tetz from Paintucation.com. He also has a forum like this.

Along the lines of metal shaping, has anyone seen the Steck Stud Lever? http://www.steckmfg.com/20014-StudLever.html.

What is a good tool to pull creases evenly?

    Thanks,

    Kent

Dennis and Kent, thanks for the input. I will check in to the info you posted. When I said that I would ask the guy at the paint shop I was talking about an old retired painter that works in the back that mixes and blends paints. He also works the counter some times and if he isn’t up there I ask for him as he seems to be the most knowledgeable one there.

I have changed floors and removed panels for repairs. Taking cars all the way apart and re-assembled them, but as for the mangled panels I haven’t dealt with. I will leave that to you guys.

forum and a few others are all you really need. Here are two other forums that most of us
    are on.
