I do collision repair in a rather large /upscale DRP shop. In the past few months, it seems like every LKQ part that I get needs 2+ hours of repair. When I inform one of the estimators, they say fix it and they never even attempt to get a supplement from the insurance co. or a partial refund from the part supplier. I understand the reason behind this (to make insurance companies and used parts suppliers happy), but I dont understand why they would lose money to do so. Anyone else have this problem?

Cant say we have, but we dont do a whole lot of used parts anymore.. But what we do get is in great shape.

sounds like management is afraid to disappoint the insurance company by asking for a supplement. :wak

I work flat rate, if the part is damaged I get paid or I refuse the part. If the what the manager does to make it happen is his business…but generally the parts are sold at a price reasonable to its condition, the insurance company pays for a good clean part.

If the company likes screwing them selves, then there are definitely some issues

i think the company is run by that insurance company as they will recommend some other shop if they get to many supplements or don’t like their pricing for a job…which i do not agree with…

Most DRP shops I know are scared shitless to ask for anything from insurance companies. :S

My parts are inspected off the truck. If there is damage back on truck it goes. But if it is something that needs to be done that day I make them knock down the price for the amount of time it will take to fix. :hunt

A lot of what I’m seeing is the LKQ supplier doesn’t have the part on hand. They are usually part of a network and they have to rely on what the other person (who actually has the part) says. I inspect right off the truck. If it’s in rough shape it goes back. If it’s in need of minor repair I call the LKQ supplier and get a credit towards fixing it. Let face it when you get a used part, it’s a used part complete with the usual nicks and rock chips.

When i order my parts i make sure my parts supplier describes every thing to me before hand, if its too serious i dont want it. I find in most cases its damaged during shipping and if its their fault they pay. No matter what i always come out on top. But im NOT a DRP shop.

i’m sure their gettin paid some how. we are drp shop, if it’s used, then you can’t expect much, usually your gettin paid well from the start, am parts is another story, if they come damage, they go back, and we get a discount, or we get the part for free.
belive you and me, if you spend enough money, lkq will kiss your azz, not the other way around.
