I am restoring a 66 Chevy Truck for a customer who wants it painted a color resembling bright copper. In fact he showed me a brand new penny that was the color he wanted to achieve. Does anyone have any suggestions on colors I might look at that will meet his requirements. I thought there was a color similar to this on late model GM trucks but cant seem to find it.
December 18, 2012 at 3:15 am #39975This may be a stupid idea, but maybe not. If you goto home depot and buy a small panel of like copper ceiling panels for example..you can take it to yout jobber and let him take a picture of it and generate a forumula.

December 18, 2012 at 7:34 am #39979If you want something bright candy is the way to go, or a base coat with a lot of pearl in.
I can look at my basf rm crizzama book tomorrow sometimes they have bright base coats that use candy in them and they still spray like base coats.

I don’t see such a color in the pic you posted….. 😛
GM has a nice one its 418p atomic orange
http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=UfcnQeWDYRAi would be very tempted to try copper weld through paint then clear it ,unsure about delam issues but its something i will be atempting ,this would give you a superb copper finish much like the chrome effect paints
the other way would be candy dyes over chrome effect but this would be an extremly expensive paintjob,i think there is a coppertone version available now maybe ven based on the copper weld through pigments
there are also copper pearls but they will not give the proper metal effect but could be very effective depending on the viewing distance
