well yes it does, because if they are not exempt in europe, then they are contributors to the posted voc rating, and I would be my house they are in the clears in discussion.
so if you calculate it to canadian/california rule, you can exempt them which lowers the voc per pound, possibly to 2.1.
Well we are up and running with Debeer 900+ and valspar LVB. The color tools are awesome, and ICRIS is a very very nice system.
I made 5 colors with the LVB solvent base and compared each to the variant chips… All five where a bang on match. sprayed first 900+ job today with GM bright silver on an O2 camaro. Customer spraying it said he had trouble burying primer, but I am suspecting his “9” coats were way to light to be considered a “coat”. I’m having a hell of a time getting the sartorious scales we use to connect to a PC, but I’ll be on the phone with the techs in the morning to try to iron that one out.
Andy, in your experience can you maybe offer any insight as to why the silver today gave my guy trouble?
January 31, 2013 at 11:36 am #40895I don’t know the colour but being 10 years old maybe it hasn’t been re-formulated in the new high-covering silvers. If it contains a lots of 913B or 913C then it will have a fairly low hiding power.
Was there an undercoat recommended for it? I formulated my own for these kinds of silvers but a quick coat of one of the value shades would have been a good idea. Either GS905 or GS906 maybe.
February 1, 2013 at 5:26 am #40903My last shop we had Valspar bank. I liked it. I was using 999 binder 2:1 reduction for spray. The 333 1:1 I couldn’t get, the jobber would’t sell they use that to mix for the customers. Then I got the LVB binder 1:1. I was happy. Less tints per color. I always trash first anyway. Only color that gave me any trouble was an audi silver sprayed funny. Rep came out mixed and sprayed he had the same trouble. I also noticed some of the colors were tri stage but in other brands they weren’t. Color matched great but more work. I have never had the complete system either (start to finish). But like with most brands same system = warrantee! Valspar did reimburse us for the paint for the audi.
well, we went LVB and debeer 900+. the LVB solvent is really catching everyones attention. I think it may trump Transtar No-mix!. color match is really good so far and its pretty inexpensive! (we haven’t done many mixes yet and still waiting on feedback from some of our customers). The problem with transtar is their xiralics are very expensive, and they use them heavily in their formulas for some reason (where other brands do not use at all). So sometimes we end up with quart mixes that are $300 or so.
I already have a shop asking us to install the solvent compliant in his shop. the 900+ seems good, but again haven’t done too many mixes yet to get a firm opinion on it. The silver I mentioned earlier we diagnosed as the painter spraying too lightly. He was not spraying wet coats at first to get coverage.. he was spraying all his coats like they where a drop coat.
I have been comparing all mixes to the variant deck as they are made, and every one matches well, whether it be solvent or waterborne.
All in all, I’m impressed with the system, I LOVE the software, and I see a very promising future with Valspar and Debeer.
February 3, 2013 at 10:30 pm #41022Glad it’s working out for you, and I did say the ICRIS system was good.
Did you get it linked up to your scales in the end? Makes mixing more or less foolproof and you can pull off some useful data if you’re that way inclined.
yes actually, after a lot of screwing around. I run sartorious scales only, and I have about 14 or so that are a mix of the PMA7500 and PMA7501 models. I initially was trying to interface to the 7500 as that’s the scale the store has been using for 6 years as a primary scale, but out of frustration tried the 7501 which didn’t get me much further ahead. So I thought about a shop we deal with that had a working setup that PPG installed, so I asked to borrow the cable they used. What I found was the cable has a flip internally in the wiring (pin two goes to pin 3 and vise versa). This cable got the 7501 working like a charm, so I made a cable for us to match.
Problem I have now is I need to figure out the pma7500 scales… they still won’t communicate using that cable. I have a lot more of the 7500 series scales than I do the 7501 and I will be damned if I’m going to spend $1500 a unit to switch them all. So thats what I am working on now, when I can find free time. LOL
I need to figure it out asap, since I will be starting to install into the shops soon.
July 29, 2014 at 7:22 am #47061I have been using Debeer 900 waterbase for about 6 months now in my shop and I love it.If you have used ppg envirobase this is very simular but about half the cost.
