Hello, my name is BondoKing.. First time thread, long time reader:silly:
Anyone ever make their own stuff,, I know Darellk did at 101 but for the moment all that info is lost as is my connection to Darellk..
Anyways, since I am broke right now and have this spare wing that does not fit my trusty ole dodge I wanted to cut it into and put it back together in the correct length.. Figured should not take more than a day or so to do it and get it ready for paint and I am kind of bored at the moment:P ..
Any of youin’s ever do this sort of thing??
AnonymousAugust 26, 2008 at 12:07 am #11355I call it the Fodge.. I need the Ford emblem to park it in Ford’s normal parking lot, so that is why you see the emblem on the back.. This is the 332,000 mile dodge I spoke of that was getting a color change etc a month or so ago..

August 26, 2008 at 1:17 am #11356too many photos. takes too long to load:P Gonna be fun doing that. Plastic welding would be nice but i dont think it will do the trick hear. likely gonna have to use a 2 part epoxy repair material. bad part is you cant get to the inside to reinforce it. I owuld cut it and get it fit then v it out on the cut seam but taper the v a good 4-6 inches on each side. use the 2 part epoxy but layer plenty of reinforcing mesh in there as well to give it some strength. you could use chicken wire but its not a structural repair like an a-pillar so the standard mesh they sell with for the epoxy will be fine. might not hurt to fabricate a third mount point in the center for some strength as well. I havent done this particular project but that is likely how i would approch it. or you could just leave well enough alone. the damn car made it 300,000 miles without the spoiler;)
August 26, 2008 at 1:28 am #11357just bolt it to the qtr pnls an suck it down with some big washers ya can still get in the trunk thru the back seat on those:lol: 😆
AnonymousAugust 26, 2008 at 1:32 am #11358yeah I know.. I just like doing different things, Look at the phone in the second pic in this post.. The top cover is chrome and the outer edge around it is ss black ice:laugh:
we are on the same page though:ohmy: ..I have cut it into already:evil: .. had to shorten it 4 inches.. I took 2 inches off each side as not to affect the way it curves etc..
I have cut the left over into 4 sections.. going to use that to bond the insides of it together.,,.if that makes sense, then V grooving the crap out of it and going from there.. Should have it all together in a couple hours after dinner here..

I promised her I would install an interior door in the basement tomorrow and put up some shelving for canned goods and all:woohoo: .. August 26, 2008 at 5:28 pm #11363When you get most of your bodywork done, flip it upside down and pour about a half cup of resin through a 1/2 inch whole and let it sit. For some reason it helps even out heat so you don’t see a splice line so bad in the sun. Trust me, I never throw a spoiler away. They are all “universal”, LOL!

AnonymousAugust 28, 2008 at 6:44 am #11373Took some more pics today.. Did not have much time again to mess with it.. Actually got a good cussin for being out in the garge instead of helping my wife.. she is kind of moody right now.. gonna pop a kid in October..
Anyways.. I stripped most of the layers of paint off of this thing, V grooved the cut area all the way around and then shot 3 wet coats of spi epoxy on it.. Gonna be gone all day until late afternoon tomorrow, so it will have plenty of time to gas off before I add material on top of that to smooth it all out
