Who’s using what and whats working?

Got some SEM Pro Tex 2k but yet to try it..

So far the Sikkens OTO has been working well but many times requires several coat to build. Taking much time.

When I feel like trying to reproduce it I will add about 5-10% water to OTO and spray it out of a 1.8-2.0 primer gun at a low pressure. That is the only way I have come close to matching it,the oto gun puts in on too thick and rough.

just turn the air pressure on the spray gun down to about 4-5 psi and it will put the clear on with a texture that matches perfect 👿

i use the body pro stuff through a schutz gun at 15 psi with a drop of gun wash added to reduce it so it goes on with less texture

We usually use Crest for the Toyota’s.

if the panels being sealed, i seal it normal, then mask and turn down the air pressure and give the lower panel or rocker an extra coat or two of sealer. unmask, color, and clear normally. no need for the 1k stuff

So you are turning the pressure down and spraying out a rough pass of clear and letting that flash then 2 (or 3) normal coats on that? Does the 2 coats soften the texture to match factory toyota? I have thought about trying this because toyota rock guard is very light and fades to nothing. I’ve tried the 3m in the yellow can with ok results, just not a perfect factory match. Fords are a breeze compaired to toyota.

    Sorry this was for “ding”

Not really the right way to do it but…. i used to do it on subarus at the shop i painted at before cause they were to cheap to buy chip gaurd. just did one additional coat over it and it matched pretty good.
this was really my smart ass how to be a hack answer 👿

Like I said I’ve thought about trying that as a last resort. I haven’t found another way that I like enough to not stop trying new ways.

I just did a door skin on an F-150.

I sprayed the Sikkens OTO undercoat on the door with the schutz gun (at the end of the day). In the morning I ran a DA with 400 over it to knock down the texture a bit and smooth out the sharp tape edge. Sealed, and painted. Matched pretty darn good, but was a fair bit of work.

I have no problem consistently spraying orange peel.
