I figured I would throw this out there. I have some plastic pieces off of a Kawasaki sportbike that I’m painting for my brother. I went in this morning to paint them and I can’t match the color for the life of me. The color is called Candy Plasma Blue. Has anyone run into this before? Is there a good place to get paint for these things?

By looking at the color I thought that it might be a three-stage blue but I wasn’t for sure. I ran a scan over it with our AquireX and it didn’t come up with anything good at all. I even tinted for awhile but never could get what I was looking for. I don’t do very many bike so I figured some of you might have run into this before.

http://www.color-rite.com is the the best place I know of for motorcycle paint.I’ve never ran into that color specifically but motorcycle paint in general can be a pain. I did a few for different colors for a kawi not long ago – a green, purple and pearl white. Enough to drive you mental. Had our rep come try with the spectrophotometer but he didn’t come up with much on it, ended up tinting like a mad man.

I’d suggest make life easy on yourself and order it from color-rite.

http://www.motorcyclepaintsupply.com is cheaper than color rite.

Is that the iridescent blue that’s flat? Man I just checked and motorcycle paint supply is down for 2.5 weeks. They are worth the wait though, the price is considerably less than color rite.

Do you use R-M? Try the paint code in smart trak. I have found motorcycle colors on there before.

No I use Dupont. It’s the clearcoated color. It appears to be a 3-stage. On color-rite there is a base color and a top color.

This is starting to become a real PITA!

The prices from color-rite are outrageous! I wonder if our computer can cross reference color-rite paint codes?

I just looked it up on BASF’s online formula database, It’s appears to be available in Glasurit 55 line, 90 line and RM Onyx hd. It says for 2004 if that sounds right? It shows it as 3-stage. Paint code comes up 723 if that helps too.

Oh yeah, that probably is the ’04 I was thinking about that flat blue from the ’06. If you haven’t seen it check it out sometime, it’s pretty crazy.

Thanks for your help guys! I will cross reference the BASF number through my computer on Monday. If that doesn’t work I will call the BASF store in town. I would rather buy local. I swear nothing I do for family is ever easy. Why couldn’t it be a solid color!

    UPDATE!

I went to the local BASF jobber and got the color mixed in 55-line Glasurit. After making a let-down panel I found one that was a panel paint.

Thanks Jimmo! The code you gave me was perfect!
