Anyone here use any of the Matrix clears? I looked at some of the reduced cycle time clears and ordered a ms15 kit to try out. Supposed to be good for one or two panel jobs. I am looking for something that I can get out of the booth faster while it’s been so cold. We don’t have a air makeup unit or anything so things have been running a little slow. I have been spraying some of the valspar speed clears and it’s done decent for me, dries quick and buffs great but it’s hit and miss if it’s gonna dieback or not. Tried some debeer speed clear over the weekend and I really like that clear other than its a little pricey.

ChuckWell I tried the MS15 clear from Matrix today. Lets say the rest of the kit will be used to cut in jambs. It sprays great and dries fast but it is water thin and it dies back. I will probably stick with the Valspar clear for now. Its got enough build it can take a buff without you being scared to death that your gonna go through. My paint guy is supposed to get me in touch with a Valspar rep to see if I can change something to get away from the dieback. Most of the time it dont really matter cause we pretty much buff everything but it sucks on the rare occasion that I can get a no buffer and the clear has died back on it. I dont have the problem with the MS clear from them but with the panel temps getting so cold you have to let them sit in the booth forever before you can pull them out.

Why don’t you just use your regular clear with a fast mix and help it out with some accelerator.If you are careful depending on brand a half ounce per sprayable quart will imrove out of dust and spray times,just don’t get to greedy 😛
I have been with some of the bigger jobs, or jobs that they are not trying to get out the same day. We get alot of bumper jobs that we try to get out same day they come in.
a popular one around here is five star speed clear (2.1voc). its really fast and nice gloss, also polishes nice. Not sure who makes it.. I have been told it might be montana. I really liked it though, but you can only do one or two panels with it because its so fast.
another killer speed clear was the transtar MTR… that stuff was wicked fast….. and really nice finish. its high voc though and I can’t get it anymore.. 🙁

ppg DC3000 is ok. Glaso and Diamont came out with a fast production clear. the low VOC versions are supposed to be pretty nice. any time you get into those ultrafast 15-30 minute clear coats like HC-15, MS15 etc, you are gonna sacrafice
HMMM I use 15 all the time on covers with little die back.(seems all ultra fast clears will die back some) Have you tried the ms 30 much better film build and better gloss retention.

Is the ms30 anything like dc3000 clear? I tried some of that out and really liked it a lot. I keep hearing how matrix is pretty much a copy of ppg.
The MS 30 is the closest thing to the DC 3000 that matrix has. You can buff it in about 2 hours depending on temp. Its give you about 1.1 mils dry per coat, so you will have more material to work with than the MS 15.
ive tried the transtar and it dies horribly. used it only twice and i redid those jobs a month later. the only production clear which i found great was the debeer. it can be a little pricey but it can be sanded and buffed after a few hours if it needs it. it doesnt die but it can pop.
