Hey Guys & Gals
Ok I been at this a while as an Amateur at any rate I have seen many have problems with this area after restoration and paint work.
I have an Old Plymouth and an old Fire bird I am working on both have problems in the sail Panel area.I have removed the lead on the Plymouth and want to use a Fiberglass short strand type of filler to replace the lead with.
I have since heard others have had problems with this cracking out latter down the road and was wondering what others are using doing to prevent cracks down the road???I have heard that all traces of lead need to be removed and then fully weld the seam, I have also heard to use Short strand fillers to Aluminum type fillers, I have also seen guys weld patches over the area.
I am at a loss except to force myself to learn how to do lead and just re-lead the area its worked for 40 -50 years ought to be good for another 40-50 years.
Whats works best? whats the best practice ?
